There are many sign posts around the city that arent actually stuck to the ground. the parking sign pole just outside to the left of Gunns Cameras on wexford St can be lifted straight up and out of the pavement. it feels completely solid like it is attached to the ground but it is not.

a guy came out from a clothes shop there and told me that theres alot of bikes getting stolen this way. he said the county council wasnt doing anything about it. these are metal posts/poles that you would presume were permanent structures but can be lifted up very easily

Yeah, I always give a pole a good shake to see how solid it is. Sheffield stands too. The one outside Gunns sounds as if my simple test would fail though, from what you say.

    Thanks for the warning!

I've endured bike loss so am probably paranoid, but I tend to avoid those short poles. For sheffields etc. and short poles if absolutely necessary, will do a 'shake test' and take a good look at the base of anchor. Scummers most definitely have some favourites round town.
