I had a claim about 2 month ago, and now i have to renew my insurance. Last year insurance cost me 900 euros, i had 3 years no claim bonus, full licence, im 20 now. Because of the claim the insurance go up, and now they asking me for 2000 euros! These are crazy money now, like my first insurance was 2400.

Is there any insurance company, which can insure me with the claim, any cheaper? Or what i have to do in this situation? Maybe someone had same story? Thank you.

ya hardly expect cheap insurance after a claim, the only thing to do is ring around other insurance companies and dont lie about the claim, if ya have another they will find out and then sue you for the claim

So, Quinn are Bastards - for putting up your premium after you had a claim? You obviously did'nt have you NCB protected? or did you? Check.

Just to you know from here on in you can insure your no claims bonus against this sort of thing.

..but it'll restrict you're abilty to move insurers for a good premium. It'll basically tie you to your insurer for a good while, in the event of a claim.

NCB protection only protects your NCB. Insurance companies will still load your base insurance after a claim.

Is there any better to go to broker? or i just throw away 50 quid?

Makes me wonder about the whole insurance business. If you are a first time driver, or young of age, you are presumed guilty and a poor driver and get hammered for a premium.

Off topic here, but onto home insurance. Rad pipe leaked upstairs and ruined the ceiling in the downstairs room directly below. Cost me bit over 1,000 to fix rad, slab and skim and paint the damaged room. Ended up with a cheque for 475.00. My premium has doubled since 2007 which more than covers their payout, and it seems an saddled with a high premium for another 3 years. Was this rad leak my fault? I have insurance to cover me in case this happens, but make a claim, and they try to claw it back!

how big was the room, were the walls damaged
1000 seems a bitt ott for what ya got done

Getting a quote from an insurance broker costs you nothing, zilch, no pesos, free gratis etc. If they have a fee it will be in the price they quote you.

Why did you get work done yourself, when insurance co could have arranged plasterer painter etc for you and you just pay 50 excess or whatever?

If you get the work done the assessor always assumes you've got something else done too for the price, and adjusts your claim. Just let them do all the work! I put a nail through a pipe and the entire hall had to be slab and skimmed and hall landing and stairs repainted. No idea how much it cost insurance co, and couldn't care less. Didn't need to get quotes or do anything. They sent in builder and assessor and took care of the whole thing.

You're going to be restricted either way, but at least this way the premium won't go up much (if at all).

That's sort of how car insurance works though. How much was your claim for, and were there any 3rd parties involved?

You need a full ncb (5 years) to protect it. Tbh op that isnt bad. It will go down again next year. Be thankful there is no personal injury claims.

    Only 1800!

Im fooked so in the new year!

I often wonder whats the point in paying insurance if there just going to fleece you the following year. Its a win win situation for the insurance companies!

Quinn Direct are the worst offenders though!!

You'll thank your lucky stars the day you're involved in a serious accident where there are serious personal injury claims & legal fees. It's hwne the claim hits ten or even hundreds of thousands of euro that all of a sudden insurance comes into it's own. The norm is that people pay cash for the "smaller" incidents to avoid any effect on their insurance premiums. Of course it depends on your personal circumstances what your ability to do this is.

Its annoying but the point is if you crash into someone and god forbid hurt them, or do significant damage to their property then the 10s of thousands that you could be liable for makes it worth it. TBH if i crash into someone i would do everything i could in the world to not claim. Simply not worth it as you'll probably end up paying 3 times it in premiums after
