Right guys looking for some info on this . Replaced abs module on car without getting it re-coded, drove 200 yards with the speedometer ,odometer and fuel efficency meter all back working , happy days i thought just have to get module recoded now and that will extinguish the dreaded abs asc lights on dash , just then the trans fail safe prog kicked in reducing cars performance and knocking out speedometer etc.. When i turn off car and un plug the module the trans fail safe message does not come back on its just im left back to square one....... , car is an 4 door saloon 520i petrol 2000.One thing i have noticed is my car battery when car is off is only rating 12.01 volts although is never sluggish to start car, its just i cant get my head around why the connection between both.
any help would be greatly appreciated . ta in advance

That sounds like a healty battery to me. It's a 12 volt battery. It should read 14-16 volts when engine is running

Always thought 12 volt battery measures about 12.7-13.0 V
    engine running its reading 13.4-13.8

Brand new they do. 12.01 is still nothing to worry about.

Try leaving the battery disconnected overnight to let everything reset*, then see what happens.

*technically not a reset, but it's a close enough description.

Another alternative to this is while you have both terminals of the battery disconnected use a spanner to connect the battery connection in the car with a spanner, that should ground out all the circuits in the car. I have done this to install a DICE iPod unit in my car. It reset the CAN Bus in the car. The reason I did this at the time (it was recommended) was to remove any spuriouc communications on the CAN Bus that was interfering witht he operation of the DICE unit.

N.B.I am not talking about connecting the two battery terminals together, it is the connectors for the battery in the car that I am talaking about. Keep well away from connecting the battery terminals together!
