Hatchback in Galway

    Hey folks,

I'm on the verge of buying a new car, scrapping my old 00 Nissan Micra. Although it's been a great car for driving me around, the cost of the last service and NCT is pushing me to scrap it before it costs me too much...
I'm torn between a few cars, but mainly:
    - A Seat Leon 1.9 TDI at 17000 euros at MotorPark Galway, 2 year warranty
    - A Renault Megane 1.5DCi at 14800 euros, 5 year warranty

I'm aware of the reputation Renault has in this country. The salesman told me it is true they had have problems with the previous range. The newer range is a bit too new to have known issue.

Whereas I read good and bad things about the Seat, good: VW Golf engine bad: Electrical problems.

I know the obvious choice for a hatch for many is 1.Ford Focus 2.VW Golf/Toyota Auris, but the wife is not very attracted to those cars, in fact she wanted a Giuletta in the first place!

I am suspicious of any car dealer in terms of aftersale. The 5 year warranty is kinda reassuring even though the goal is not to visit the garage to avail of it...
Any advice about those cars, and good independent mechanics in Galway area who know their stuff/brand?

...well, I can gaurantee you both cars will cost you more than your Micra to NCT and service - you're mad to scrap it. Sell it to someone who'll use it.

How big a service/NCT bill did you get ??

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Never had an electrical problem with my Leon in 115k km. Dont think it's worth €2k more than the Megane though, and it's not going to have as much equipment or warranty either.
