Im trying to find out this, i trawled through the centeral bank quarterly review but i couldnt find it. I just want to see if its possible some of this recession is down to consumer confidence, which i have a feeling it could be.

keep in mind that only 20% of Anglo's deposits are from Irish citizens... (source RTE Primetime chart few weeks back) if other banks have high amounts of deposits from outside Ireland (dont BOI run the UK Post Office accounts?) then consumer confidence might not be such a large factor.

Yeah that is a fair point, and yes boi do run the post office bank in the uk. Still though i tghink it would be interesting to compare.

I believe the numbers you are looking for are here:

    http://www.centralbank.ie/data/site/cmbs/ie_table_a.1_summary_irish_private_sector_credit_and_deposits.xls

The bit you are interested in is 'Irish Private Sector Deposits'. The numbers are:

Households have gone from €187bn in Aug 2009 to €178bn in Aug 2010
Companies have gone from €42bn in Aug 2009 to €36bn in Aug 2010
Pansion funds/financial companies have gone from €45bn in Aug 2009 to €45bn in Aug 2010

Dispite media talk of saving going up, less of it is in Irish banks. I can see only two reasons. More people are eating into their savings than are saving money. The other reason is people have taken their money out of Irish banks.

Company numbers are surprising to me. Surprising in how small they are relative to households. Also by how small the dip is. I am pretty sure this dip is companies taking their money out of Irish banks. I would expect companies to be more conservative than individuals and so for the drop to me more pronounced. Perhaps this happened already before 2009.

Thanks very much, someone on boards has the answer to everything. Is their any figures available for the "boom". The level of deposits by business are interestingly low.

It's on the second tab, peaked at €45bn in 2007. Again I have to say I'm amazed at how low it is relative to household deposits. Financial companies peaked at about the same figure, at about the same time.

My excel is fubarred, I would love to see a graph of the second sheet, columns C and M, total loans verses total deposits. Would be a nice picture of the boom.
