    Hi all.

I have 30-40 (small, 20x24ins) paintings on canvas that I need to photograph. I have a DSLR (sony alpha), tripod, remote shutter release.

Lighting is obviously the big issue. I'm ready to spend some cash on lights but I have no idea where to start.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

A good window should provide all the light you need.

Trial and error then comes in to it.

yea natural light will look better than studio lights

maybe get a reflector and something to diffuse the light from the window

Use a grey card as well for easy accurate colour reproduction.

I've got one northern light, which is on the right side so a reflector on the right sounds doable.

    A grey card? Great idea.

I'm certainly happy to avoid buying lights but I worry that my window wont provide enough light.

I did a batch of around 30 paintings recently. Did them outdoors on a cloudy day so light was diffused.

    Worked out fine.
