I am currently on work experience in a IT Department, College.

The big problem is they are not giving me much work to do.

I keep going between staff, and im sick of it. (thinking of packing it in)
the staff are holding on to their own jobs.

The worst part is having no base,

    what should I do?

in fairness you are on work experience they can only give you jobs they think you will be able to do. why dont you ask for some jobs to do. dont expect them to be great but when they see you can do some stuff they will give you more i would imagine

Why not ask them for more work or say to them you would like more of a challenge?

Sure throw it in - someone else will bite the hand off them for the job - be it not busy/not too responsible/unpaid or not.
Did I mention that I got my current job through a work experience that I did for free? And I didnt have all that much to do too, but I didnt whinge about it either.

Yup totally agree just stay quiet and be glad you have a job, billions dont, and you should feel privileged.

ffs, seriously its WORK EXPERIENCE without work or gaining experience the whole thing is pointless. I value my time an effort and would serious think of packing it in if there was no benefit to me. I have done work exp and I expect experience from it.

OP it might be an idea to seek out work, if you see an opportunity to improve on something try to suggest it to someone.

Yeah - and the youth of today whinge on and on...

Prividged bunch of yolks where everything will fall into your laps.

Wake up a little will you.

If he doesnt want to do it, or feels he is getting nothing for it, he should jack it in. He is in my opinion, very privilidged to be getting experience. Who knows where it will lead to. If he has a positive attitude he, might get somewhere.
