Gimmes in matchplay

    Does anyone else think everyone should just hole out all putts in matchplay. Do you think sometimes it leads to players not sure if they should give a putt or not and get a little confused about it.
    I've seen some tension between players when certain putts aren't conceded, would it just be easier if everyone had to hole out?

    Part of what makes matchplay golf what it is imo.

    I know I'll always mess around with it; concede anything up to 3 feet until hole 5/6 and then spring one on them.

    I wouldn't give someone a three-footer if they held a gun to my head....

    Personally i don't believe in gimmes. In competition i would insist on all putts been made.

    No. I think its all part of what makes matchplay great. Whether or not to make him putt, if you make him putt on this hole will he make you putt on the next, etc. And its nice to just be able to pick up the markers and shake hands at the end of a game. Makes it more gentlemanly IMO.
