NCT question

I know that if the horn doesn't work they will fail the car in the NCT.

My issue is that I have an '83 Golf with a rare (ish) steering wheel and the horn mechanism needs replacing. Can't find any though.

So my question is can I put a horn on the dash somewhere, or does it need to be on the steering wheel?

    Thanks.

    From NCT manual:

    HORN
    Method of Testing
    1. Check the security of the horn and horn control.
    2. Operate the horn control and note that the horn sounds correctly.

    REASONS FOR FAILURE
    1 Control insecure.
    2 Horn insecurely mounted.
    3 Not working correctly.
4 Not working or not fitted.

In my opinion there is nothing about mounting point, so it can be mounted anywhere where driver can reach.

One of my mums old cars (a Peugeot I think) had the horn button at the end of one of the Sticks beside the steering wheel.

Id imagine if it is easily accessible you might be ok.

I had a similar issue before on a car and I wired the horn to a push button I installed. It failed because the tester used the original horn button. Once I pointed out the new horn, it passed. He told me to label the button to avoid further confusion when the car was tested again.

    Thanks.

Looks like I should be ok so, I was thinking I'd need to mark it alright so that it could be found by the tester.
