guys im having a problem with my ps3. when i turn it on the screen starts to flicker. then when you select the game it goes into it then goes blank but you can hear the music playing.. thought it might have been the hdmi cable but a new one hasn't fixed the problem. the av cable that came with it wont work at all..
    anyone any ideas??

Try a full re-format (can take 2-3 hrs) but my mate had a similar problem and it sorted it

Ive the same problem, think it has something to do with the recent 3D update. Is the full reformat the only solution coz I assume that wil more or less wipe the hard drive?

On the main screen, when u turn on the ps3, go to settings, I think it's in system settings. I can't remember exactly but look around and you'll find it easily enough. Just press yes when it asks you do you want to do a full re format

Don't do a format of the HDD until you've done a few checks first.

Can you try it on a different TV?
    Can you watch DVDs/Blu-Rays?
Is it the same with PSN games?

To get the AV cable to work, you have to reset it to accept it, as you have it pre-set for HDMI.
I can't remember how to do it, hold power button for 3 seconds or something like that...

    DON'T FORMAT ANYTHING YET

Tottally agree! Could be something silly! Try without the HDMI cable and do it the old way too.! When you have it hooked up with the av cables and when in standby mode hold and press the on button at the front a couple of secs till you hear another beep. it will then be useable on AV cables. If it works then you know its something to do with the HDMI cable / TV or the HDMI on the PS3 :D

Try plugging your tv out completely from the wall socket for 20 seconds, then plug back in and try again. I get the same problem every now and then ,sound but no picture and i think its something to do with my lcd tv, maybe. Plugging it out does the trick for me though, might be similar problem to yourself.

I had a similar problem, bought a second HDMI cable and a few months later I bought a new laptop with a HDMI port.....you never know when that second HDMI cable will come in handy.
