Prix de L'Abbaye - Longchamp Sunday

    Arctic 1pt ew @ 33/1 Ladbrokes

Massive price for a horse that patently loves a bog. He smashed a G3 field last year by 4 and a half lengths which included Air Chief Marshal who is an in and out G3 horse for Ballydoyle and a further length back was Sebastian Flyte once rated 107 and now rated 102. The manner of that win was amazing and big things were expected but the colt blew up on Good to Firm ground on his last two starts, one of which was his one and only start of this his 3yo campaign. Its a worry that he's had only one run and also that i can't find any news about him whatsoever but there have been plenty of opportunities for him to be taken out of the race and the fact that he's still in and that the ground will be to his liking indicates that 33/1 is a very good price for the impressive mud lover.

    Planet Five 1pt ew @ 16/1 Ladbrokes

Pascal Bary who's a very accomplished trainer in France but has never won the Abbaye. He tries this year with a colt who has only tried the 5f once but that was a successful attempt in a G2 on Soft ground at Chantilly. He beat Picadilly Filly and Marchand D'Or that day and was hammered over 7f on his next outing. Perhaps this new distance will bring out the best in him...it will have to if he is to take this race. Being a French horse it would be great if he had some indication of how he is likely to act at Longchamp but he has never raced there. Judging by his career campaign though Bary seems to think that this is the ideal opportunity to try him at G1 level for the first time and he ought to have a competitive chance.

Prices on Arctic have collapsed. I'm hoping that proves to be indicative. Planet Fives profile is attractive but the best horse in the race is Lady Of The Desert.

Believe it or not but after Equiano was withdrawn from the Haydock Sprint I was in the middle of posting a suggestion in aidankk's thread about Lady Of The Desert after he said he'd have to find value in the race. Internet died and post was lost forever....thats happened a lot lately.

Just looking at the card for the race tomorrow, can anyone remember a worse renewal of the race?

I think you mean that none of the "hot" sprinters are contesting it but the last two winners are in there and Lady Of The Desert looks an absolute beast over a sprinting distance.

I'm going for 2.50 each way on Arctic on the PMU,was between him and Marchand D'or.I don't know how much I'd like her over 5 even though she did win her maiden over it. I'd be worried about the going for her.
