Going on a weekend break during mid December. Either Munich or Prage is what I am attracted to.
Has anyone been to either at that time of year? Which would they recommend? I am a guy who will be travelling alone.
WIll there be snow? And are the Christmas markets open then?

    Thanks

I would choose Munich everytime. Much bigger and more diverse and a very interesting city. Much safer, and better nightlife. More sightseeing options.

If you're after cheaper Czech BUD beer and seedy trashy atmos well go to Prag, but you'll need eyes in the back of your head.

If you go to the Czech Republic you have more choices than Prague. Why not pick a city outside Prague? It's a beautiful wonderful country. Get the pendolino High speed train to your destination.

Have been to both cities in the last few years. Have to say they both have pluses and negatives.

Prague is cheaper (although catching up), seedier although not that bad!. It depends on the person to be honest. I would not rate Prague to be dangerous like others have said, and found it fine, take the usual travelling precautions as you would anywhere and you will be fine.

There is loads of things to do in both cities but Munich is superior. Both cities have great public transport and at that time of year both cities will equally be freezing, for me Munich would win especially if they have Christmas markets there.

Munich. Prague is beautiful and it has very nice history but the behaviour of people offering tourist services is worst than that found in an arab market. They will drive you nuts and try to ripp you off all the time.

I have been there, seen it, not coming back ever again.

Other option is Budapest. People are lovely, very good value, excellent food. Thumbs up!

Munich every time. For all the reasons given above.

I haven't been to Prague but was in Munich few years back and it is a great city. I was there during Oktoberfest so don't know what weather is like in Dec but I'd advise you to bring all your wollies!

I'd imagine christmas markets would be gorgeous. There's some stunning buildings in Munich and even just the outside the city the countryside is beautiful
