canon 50D compact flash problem!!

    hey, hows it going!!

i have a canon 50D and the other day it just stopped reading my compact flash card, i presumed it was the cards fault and bought a new 8gb lexar card but i got the same problem with this card. when i turn on the camera i get a message saying "card not formatted. format in this camera" so when i got to the menu and try to format in the camera i get a message saying " cannot format. change card" i get this with both cards so the problem is with the camera. i recently connected my camera to a shared mac in the college computer room to upload the studio pics i had taken, could this have something to do with the problem... like changing from fat16 to fat32 or vice versa..??

the pins in the CF slot are all straight and not oxidised so this problem really has me stumped, has anyone had this problem before and if so what was the fix for it..? or any ideas in general for a fix..?

sorry for the long post but need to get this fixed soon for college and cant really send it into canon to get fixed.

    thanks again!!

It appears to be as if 1 of the pins is not making proper contact. Check your pins again with a magnifying glass. I know you have said they look ok but worth another check especially as the camera has refused to read 2 different cards.
    Good luck, John

yep you are now my new hero!!! there was indeed a pin on the far right that was literally half a mm or less out of line i gave it a little push and put the card in and worked again with both cards!!

thanks very much for the advice and getting me to double check!!
