Anybody know if there's a music society this year?

Seems odd there's none this year since all the stuff was bought last year. No point in it going to waste.

Some guitars and I think a set of drums and maybe some other stuff?

As for your question, I'd like to know too :p

They managed to get some acoustic guitars/electric with small amps

but then the society never seemed to go anywhere

I'd sure as hell love to be able to wander off an play guitar during a break.

The acoustic guitars currently reside in the common room store room.
Awful shame, someone needs to step in here *looks around* ;D

Also you not exactly a music society when all you have is guitars...I mean they'd need some keyboards, violins and so on... the plan the guys had last year always seemed flawed to me from the very beginning due to this fact. I think they were aiming for more of a band soc... where they were the band.... and the college paid for all their stuff :(

I remember when I was first year a guy brought in his bass and I brought in my electric and we jammed away in the corner of the common room... this was way back when it was quite, unlike these days.

but I think if someone managed to organise jam session for peeps with similiar musical interests then that would be awesome... like monday= metal day tuesday=pop wednesday=rock and so on
also.. I think those guys got permission to use the orotory too... but that old student union room is still lieing vacant >.>

Was talking to diarmuid (clubs and socs officer) he would like to meet with the OP(thats Original poster in boards speak *Points at KONfusion*)to discuss this

Sorry Drodan it was late and I'd been programming in java for 6 hours straight before posting that

Fudge off I wasn't the initial poster, plus I'm already running the Ultimate team I wouldn't have time to run both. I'm sure if Diarmuid just sent out an e-mail asking if someone would be interesting in running the soc he'd get at least one response.

I've no doubt there's plenty willing to come forward,

I'm in the same boat as Drodan... I don't have time for both

no idea what Raptor meant by that 0_o but anyways

I guess it's a case of watch this space.

alright well even if that person doesn't pan out, just remembered that there's some more instruments.... guitars I think in cage's in the big walk in press's in the sports hall. I think there was a fairly decent make electric there at one point.

Sure there's a drum kit, no symbols, on the weird little balcony thing in the hall too. It's green I believe.

Yes, I would be able to do something, IF The SU Clubc&Socs officer was doing His Job.

You want anything done your going to have to do it yourself Kadie, like everything. Kinda sucks but sure

Well he's not gonna run it for you ;D. No meetings/posters/emails from anyone... that can't all be diarmuids fault >.>

You'd need to run it by louise but that old su office would make a good jammin spot.. the lads last year that went a bit off the deep end with it got permission to use the orotory, which is nice and big. So I'd say organise a room with the su, regardless of whether it's diarmuid who oks it aslong as it's an su member, tell people to turn up.. have a random jam don't put pressure on anyone just let them roll with what they feel comfortable playing... gauge members levels of experiance and how many will turn up and roll from there.

    easy ;D

You can't blame diarmuid for everything, some attempt at actually running the thing needs to be made

    /rant

    :D

I really want to see this society kick off... hell if I had free time I'd bring my amp in tomorrow and jam in the corner and anyones free to join in ;D

Maybe make a music soc corner in common room, where people have slots, groups and solo's and are allowed to sit there and play whatever they want. That would be awesome. It would also make the awareness for the soc shoot up.

I don't really see how lack of diarmuids presence is stopping you, if you want something to run, then you have to run it ;D, all the equipment is there! and most people would prefere to use their own kit anyways for major things.

    hey folks

Ive been interested in joining up with this club since i started in blanch in Sept yet theres been no word on anythin happening. I emailed whomever it was that sends out the group emails and suggested havin a jam somewhere and see who turns up....yet no response...and no action either!

is there anythin we could do to help grease the wheel of this a little??

music soc has been scuppered recently due to no rooms being available for jamming sessions. I know the CEO (Kadie on here) is working to rectify this
