In case you're not familiar with the insane demands of this game, playing multiplayer FF:CC requires one Gameboy Advance and one GBA-GCN Link Cable per player. We currently possess... zero.

(We do have a copy of the game, though.)

(Also, just checking: you can use GBA connectivity for GCN games if you're playing on a Wii, right?)

    Anyway.

We're looking for the cheapest possible way to get our hands on four GBAs and four GBA/GCN link cables. GBA SPs are preferable though not essential (we hate having to use batteries and like backlighting, see). It's taking us a while to sift through eBay, but we did establish that Amazon can get us the lot (SPs and cables) for about £90 including P&P (and no, Amazon's dickery about refusing to deliver to Ireland is not a problem for us) so that's our price to beat.

We're almost... accepting of the prospect of paying £90 to play one videogame, but this is kinda coming close to "the line", so we're hesitating for now.

So. Does anyone have any advice or leads on where we can go for this? Massive thanks in advance.

(For the love of god, no pun intended. That would be terrible.)

Hmm... I'm almost sure you are going to need a Cube for it. They are dirt cheap though. As for FF CC it's not a great game but becomes one when you have 4 players. My advice is to pick up the Pac-man Vs. game (fantastic with 4 players) and zelda four swords (even better than FF CC) to make the investment worth it.

Why would you need a Cube?
Wii is backwards compatible...and has gamecube ports?

I know my local Xtra-vision has a bargin bin of old GB accesories, spotted a few cables in there for under 5 quid each. Worth looking into.

As for GBA's, eBay is your friend, get SP versions if you can, backlighting is the single greatest invention in portable gaming.

Have to second Zelda: Four Swords, have it and a great game even single player.

It is backwards compatible but I'm not sure if it works with the GBA link games, you should check it up first.

The Wii works with GBA link games. I've done it.

A good rule of thumb for the Wii's backwards compatibility is that when you run Gamecube games, it becomes a Gamecube for better or worse. A Gamecube you can't attach a GBA player to.

As a Gamecube, it has no connectivity with Wii Remotes, Classic Controllers or the DS line of handhelds, as these haven't been invented yet :P

I'm a huge goddamn FF:CC fan and have played through numerous files with different groups of friends. One of my favourite games on the cube.

I'm not sure you're going to be able to beat £90 though. I know GAME has a lot of cheap (€20?) pink GBA:SPs floating around that come with a free copy of one of the GBA pokemon games, but I have no idea where you could get 4 link cables these days though.

If you're making a town with 3 other players, a good golden rule is "Don't play that town unless all 4 of you are together".

The levels get harder at about the same rate you upgrade your character, anyone who misses out on a few sessions, or makes a character while you're well into your journey will fine themselves getting curb stomped by the most basic enemies.

If you want to play on your own, or with a different group of friends, make a different town.
