Milkers getting a mix of straw, mins, maize silage, 3 way mix and soya, about half of their dm intake, fed before evening milking, just the way the set up is. Highly stocked and grass cover per cow geting low, last weeks cold spot is starting to show and thank god we brought on the feeder in time or wed be v worried.

Drys following cows and brought into parour for 1kg of 3 way mix and minerals.

    You?

nearly opened it at the start of the week, walked the farm before deciding cover/cow was at 355kg/cow , was happy enough with it so left it closed.
gave the cows an extra kg of 14% blend, on 3 kg now, with about 2 dozen ones a bit low on bcs getting an extra kg on top of that.
as it stands at the moment, it looks like i might start to feed a bit of silage towards the end of next week. start the last rotation on the 8th, will walk farm before then and decide.

all depends on stocking rate and how long you plan on keeping grazed grass in the diet. personally stocked at 2.8lu/ha on the whole farm, and plann on grass till last week of nov. with turn out the first week of feb, just a matter of doing the sums each week

will most likely escape feeding silage for another 2-3 weeks , have a couple of paddocks skinned with sheep and closed for february,

will have grass well into november if ground conditions hold up

milkers getting 3 kgs of 16/17% mix

all cattle and half of the sheep on the out farm

    what about yourself whelan1?
