Pressurised System??

Folks I'm just looking for a bit of advice before I go chat my plumber.

Plumber has pretty much finished work on my new build. Heating on the past week or so and in the last few days cylinder/sanitary ware all installed and running.

The first thing I noticed is that the pressure in the taps is awful, really bad flow.

It's meant to be a pressurised system but does this only relate to the heating or should there be very good pressure going to the taps too.

This is probably a very basic question but I'm not too good in the pumbing department. Sorry if its a bit vague.

    Any help appreciated

A Pressurised system generally relates to the heating only. is it a bungalow or a two story house?

    Thanks for your reply.

    It's a 2 storey.
So more than likely it's only the heating thats pressurised.

What can I do to increase the pressure in the taps? Can I fit a pump on the flow from attic?

I would go mad if I had to live with the dribble thats currently there.

Booster pump should do the trick for you. I had one installed lately and it's the business. 3 bar one should set you back around 500 notes. This will also boost your water to your mixer showers (if you have any).

Heating systems usually refered as :
Open vented system ( small F&E Tank in attic) or
Sealed system (with red Expansion vessel at boiler or in Hotpress normally)

Pressurised system normally relates to domestic hot and cold water services.
Either via a Pump which pressurises the cold water supply. this presurised cold feeds into a presurised cylinder which in turn gives you presurised hot water.

Or you can take cold water from the tank in attic and hot water from cylinder and run them through a pump to boost the water pressure.

I would suggest that if the plumber hasn't already fitted a special pressurised cylinder with a booster pump already you do may need to fit a separate pump and may need to modify some of the pipes.!!

agree with ntpm, have you a large water storage tank in your attic, are the taps etc high pressure or standard

Where did you buy your taps... Ireland...England.

Does it only happen to your hot tap / Cold tap or both.

What type of showers have you got... Electric or shower valves. Are they working ok.

Have you a diverter on your bath shower mixer...Does it stay open when you activate it.

    Thankd for replies guys.

Ok so the hot and cold are not pressurised as I had thought they would be. A bit of a mix-up along the way it seems.

ntpm - yes it's an open vented system with small tank in attic. It looks like I'll have to fit a booster pump to resolve the issue - the guts of a grand I'd imagine.

Joey - I bought the taps in Ireland but they could have been imported I suppose. They are high pressure taps too as I thought the system was pressurised.

I have 1 electric and 2 thermostatic mixer showers. I dont know how they are working as the shower pump has yet to be fitted.

So is my only option here to fit a booster pump?

    Thanks for advice.

Snap. High pressure taps on a low pressure system, chances are, this is the problem, but Joey will advise on this. Looks like either changing the taps or pump. That said, it mightn't resolve the problem, however if you have an open water system in a two story house with the tank in the attic, its highly unlikely to be anything else.
