CD/DVD drive on a laptop... is it a problem or how it works?

Hey basically I haven't used my laptop in near a month and I'm use to a dvd/cd drive from a desktop pc. Now, on a desktop pc you press the button for it to come out and press it again for it go back in. If you ret to "push" it in manually, it sort of gets stuck and it requires some force then closes automatically.

I got my laptop back today after repairs, turns out the drive was misalaigned when i got it looked at today (I pressed the button to open and it wouldn' close).

So now when I try to move my laptop on it's side (this was through a coincidence I discovered this), even though it's not really ideal to do it I noticed that if the side that the dvd drive is on is fa cing the celling, then gravity won't let it remain open. Basically, I turn it on it's side, click the button, and it pops open slightly and if i try to pull it open (like i'm meant to) nad let it go it closes insanely fast, as in, damagingly fast I'm worried about that.

So is this normal or is it a fault?

Oh and it shuts completely, i tried it on my mother's laptop and hers is much slower in closing and also, it does not shut the full way.
It's like a door closing, mine is being "slammed" shut and hers closes slowly but is stilghtly ajar, like when you first open the dvd tray with the button (Before you pull it out).
