Finishing PhD, when eligible for dole?

    I'll shortly be handing in my PhD thesis in less than a month, after which I'll have to be looking for a job. My viva exam won't actually be until after Christmas. I've received my final scholarship salary payment as of today. I'll be technically "job seeking" as of the day I hand in my thesis in a couple of weeks.

    At what point should I apply for the Jobseeker's Allowance?

    (If this is the wrong forum then move it!)

    If your payment is monthly, I'd go in on the first day I would have received an installment if ya get me .. the day the scholarship has expired. I didn't go in for another month but once the thesis has been handed in and your funding is finished you're officially without income and available for work.
