Hi, I know, I know this thread type has been done to death, but I have noone else to ask.

I have an interview tomorrow, and it's been soo long since I had one I have no clue. It's for part time retail work. I was told a pracitcal is also included.

So lost, like I say haven't done one of these in a long time, so out of touch with what type of questions etc. :(

Also how formal do you dress?, I always wear dress slacks and a blouse and formal jacket, is tht too formal these days or would tht appear too stuffy/formal.

Sorry, I'm all over the place, just really nervous! :(

And I just remembered, I have a huge lack of references, Should I just put down my last employers details? the actual ppl (managers) I worked with are no longer there?

    Thank you so much!!

Hey. when it comes to retail you generally should try to dress similar to the product being sold by the shop. No problem turning up in formal wear if thats what your comfortable in. the practicle is getting you to pick out an outfit for a potential customer. dress them head to toe. maximise your add ons. i.e belts accessories. Use whatever mannequinns are in the shop to give you an idea for outfits. Turn up early and have a walkabout round the shop so your familiar with the product.
Key points for interview : make sure to say the Customer is paramount.
Always maintain eye contact and smile.
thats all i can think of now.

    Goodluck with it

I would say pants + shirt are fine if you do not have a suit.

    Questions like

why do you want to work for us?

What do you know about ?

Tell me a time about good customer service.

    Example of working under pressure.

    Example of teamwork.

    Tell me about yourself.

Make sure you know which stores are in competition with the brand you are applying to.

Also make sure you make a note of what items are displayed just inside yhe door, these are prob the current best sellers.

And if you have time practice putting an outfit together with acc fromthe stock on the shop floor.

All previous advice is very good. Regarding references - its a good idea to stay in personal contact with ex bosses (where possible) because they can give a better reference. If you have personal contact for any of the last 2 or 3 call or email them and ask if you can give their name as a reference. If they say yes then give their details and say where you worked for them to the interviewing company. If you don't have personal contact then just give the details for the HR manger/HQ of the last employers.
