maternity benefit, self-employed

    Hi,
I'm currently pregnant and self-employed and am trying to figure out if I am entitled to maternity benefit. Although the relevant tax year is 2008, I did not have any tax payments in that year (mainly due to being on maternity leave), and so I will be assessed based on 2009. I (unsurprisingly) haven't completed by 2009 return yet but my income is likely to be quite small. I'm trying to find out a ball park figure of what I need to have earned in order to be eligible for the '52 weeks contribution at PRSI S class' which would entitle me to maternity benefit. I have so far phoned maternity benefit, revenue and social welfare dept., and just been moved from one to the next.
I do my own tax returns so don't have access to an accountant for advice.
Any suggestions/information would be much appreciated.

You can also use the 2007 or 2009 year if you don't have enough from 2008 to qualify. You get 80% of your average weekly earnings from the relevant year.
