You'd have to tell us a bit more of your game mate.

    Handicap?
    Budget?
Driving a real problem and if so, is the problem length or accuracy(slice or hook etc.)?

One things for sure, do get custom fitted whatever you choose to buy.

    Handicap 19.
I drive fairly straight its length. My set of Clubs are not the greatest so starting first with driver. 250 euro max. Help appreciated.

Visit the Pro in Birr Driving Range for a fitting with the Machine and then pick out a Ping, new or 2nd hand to match the result. Great stock of new and 2nd hand there. Well worth the trip for quality service and value.

What's good for one, isn't neccessarily good for another. Try and get to hit a few different makes and see what one you like/suits you.

You'd be mad to splash out 250 quid on a club without trying it first.

Totally agree with this. Lot of money to be taking a gamble. Getting fitted isn't just for pros. Could be worth €30 for a quick lesson from your local PGA Professional. Even if they don't specialise in driver fitting, they'll give you solid guidance on specifications that will suit YOU.

Even if you don't get fitted though, just make sure you hit a few different models beforehand. Whether that means trying out a mate's on the course or at the driving range, just try out as many as you can. make an informed decision. And also, don't be sway by the look of a club - i've learnt this the hard way and so has my wallet.

If you're using your driver 30+ times in a round then there's certainly something wrong and giving up golf might be a better idea than getting fitted :)

sorry forgot the winky smiley thing so now have to explain and make myself look stupid.;)

I was agreeing with you that the putter is the most often used club, but AnthonyT then said he was referring to the title. In which case he was saying the driver is the most used club out of all the drivers... (exactly it doesn't make sense).:D
