Carzone are learning the hard way

I'm sure you all know that when Autotrader took over carzone.ie, they got rid of everything that made it such a popular site with both dealers and private sellers alike. Where you previously paid just 30 euro and the car stayed up till sold, they doubled the price and removed that facility.

Well now it seems they've realised their silly business decision has cost them their private seller customer base, as they are re-introducing one that above feature: http://www.carzone.ie/ola/

Yes there's a big lack of private cars on it from what there used to be, I think sites like donedeal are taking a lot of their business.

Until they change the layout back as-well I'll be sticking to donedeal. The site was almost perfect the way it was

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 251 ✭✭hanloj1

carzone are way over priced. 3e for donedeal is the job. everyone is talking more about donedeal now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 564 ✭✭✭steph1

Well I dont have much sympathy for them to be honest they just got greedy like a whole lot of other businesses.
Donedeal is a very good site and not full of scam adverts unlike some others. It only costs a 3 euros phone call. A lot of cars seem to be sold fairly quickly from it to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,473 ✭✭✭robtri

feck them... their prices are crazy...

donedeal is the best at the min...

Still way too expensive, 10 euros would be too expensive in these hard times..........

I havent even looked at carzone in months.

and it used to be the first site id ever use for cars.

its all donedeal now, with a side helping of gumtree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

They seem to be offering ad until sold for €25 which is a hell of alot better than it was.
The layout is crap for searching but I just search through driving.ie
I would use it now at these prices.
Donedeal is great but doesnt work so good for more expensive cars imo.

Donedeal with a good search option and tags banned would be excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭bmw535d

done deal ripped the arse out of all other sites. fairplay to the man that owns donedeal.

Just to echo the sentiment of some if not all previous posters on the thread I think its too little too late on the part of carzone or autotrader. €40 is too saucy, extortionate really if you ask me. Tis no wonder dondeal.ie has taken over the mantel as there was clearly an opening there.

I notice that none of you mention CBG.ie, I know that theres not as many cars there but the site is good I think.

True. IMHO, I wouldn't compare Carzone to Donedeal today. Carzone tends to be more dealer specific these days, but don't know who would spend 40 quit to advertise a 1-2k car.

A lot of dealers have left carzone too....

To be honest I think that carsireland.ie is better than carzone and done deal for searching cars for sale.
They are much more simple to use and they r for free.

I totally agree, I'm not defending their business.

CBG hasn't been competitive for some years now. The site is and always has been an utter mess.

I used to always use carzone and stopped the day they changed the search features to silly slide bars. It takes about 5 minutes now just to select what your looking for. Very annoying. I Use www.driving.ie is basically the old version of carzone, same stuff, loads of dealers and private cars. :-)

This is why I don't use carzone. Never seen so many dreamers post up adds like this. Where do carzone get their customers, fantasia?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,706 ✭✭✭fonecrusher1

For me Carzone went from being the first place i'd go to sell or look for a used car to the last. Now i wouldn't give them a cent or even bother looking at the website.

Donedeal.ie & gumtree.ie are the only websites i'd use for selling a car.

Carzone, the celtic tiger is long gone.

Carzone is ****ing ****. Especially whatever scam they've got going to increase page views (to hawk advertising) by requiring you to repeatedly click 'back' to go back a page or two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Chonker

Funny really how the mighty fall, I remember a few years ago that part of my nightly ritual would be a long scan through the adds on carzone maybe not even with the intention of buying anything, I haven't been on there in years, it simply is not that interesting anymore.

    Greedy Fools

Done deal all the way, although if Mr Done deal is reading some tweaking might not be a bad thing.

Since they changed the format I have stopped using the site. I used to like the "recently" added car search tool as it was handy to view cars that were just added rather than scrolling through the same overpriced rubbish every week.

Also I can understand why they had to put a time limit on adverts up there, the display till sold system was abused to no end. Nothing more frustrating that clicking on an advert listed as a 5 Series and finding that someone was now selling a Polo using the same advert. €40 was a piss take though.

I starting using www.driving.ie as it used the old carzone.ie search engine. However I have also found it frustrating at time though as the reliability of the site is poor. I encounter regularly that the site is either down or when doing a search the query times out.

I find www.carsireland.ie to be a good alternative these days.

Yep i find donedeal excellent and highly addictive..Great site, wish i came up with that idea.

Any1 notice but nearly every car for sale is, owner emmigrating, got new company car. Also hate when people talk about their car in an ad saying shes a beauty, she never let me down.. :-O

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

It's too late now, I stopped using it and have found better alternatives.
    Bye bye carzone.

A few of them are but if you take a look at gumtree some evenings it is full of dealer ads.

    This..

Try browsing for a TypeR Honda, Lancer EVO, Focus ST etc etc and you end up with all sorts of rubbish.

Donedeal is cheap and popular so it gets loads of views and sells cars but its layout is a disaster. Its impossible to search for a model you are interested in without getting pages and pages of rubbish. The site really needs a revamp to move forward and become more user friendly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

There's a rep from DD on here called DonnaDoneDeal or something similar. She mentioned it will be getting an overhaul specifically for cars. Here's hoping they don't make a mess of it.

Having said that, DeVore also said that Adverts is after tying in with some online car site and will be getting a huge makeover for car sales too in the near future. The only problem with Adverts is that you could be selling a Ferrari Enzo for 10k, and someone'll offer you 1.

Search for a Daewoo Matiz or Lanos, and you'll find them :D

Haven't been on carzone for months . Hate the layout and few private sales.

The Carzone search is a bit poorly thought out. The ad on TV says you can search whatever way you want. So if you want a Blue car, you can just search for everything Blue. Or if you want to search for an engine size. Who does that? Seriously?

To instigate any search of merit now on the site can take up a minute by the time you've input the parameters of what you want. Pick a letter of the alphabet, then pick a make, then pick a model. Then pick a year range, then pick engine size, then pick price. You'd need the patience of a saint to spend any time there, and by the time you do get the search results you want, most of the cars are all screwed up. POA pricing, or straight sale pricing, or incorrect specifications (Every extra - which translates to alloys and fogs), or worse again, no specifications.

Just to add to my earlier comments. I am also sick to death of searching through fake scam adverts or the high number of poorly photo shoped cars by that PFA crowd that are not even in the country.

The Autotrader group were always greedy. Before the days of carzone I used to buy their magazine for a browse every few weeks and it was extortionately priced. They were always jacking up the price as well whenever it took their fancy.

When carzone started offering the facility for private sellers to advertise it was extremely good calue for the time. Autotrader of course were having none of it and bought up the website and jacked up the prices to their levels.
