Paint job really I'd say is the main difference.

Dig up the specs for both and go through them. I doubt there's much difference.

I don't know enough about bike specs to decide on which bike is better. All details are online.

No links. A bit lazy, no?

Have the 2010 Defy 2, great bike, no issues yet!

Havent seen many Defy 2's about, plenty of 3's and 4's though!

I'm using mine mainly for commuting, about 35k. Hope to get the mileage up and do the 100k charity cycle in Castlecomber!

I havent got a clue about bikes but I thought it was a fairly well specced bike although I didnt check out too many similarly priced bikes, surley someone will be along with better advice!

Most of the shimano components on the '10 are Tiagra as apposed to Sora on the '11 so that would be a plus for '10

Don't know what those Giant wheels are like on the '11 but the rims are Mavic on the '10 which are pretty reputable. Again I'd say it's another plus for the '10.

As for the frames and forks - they make no distinction between them other than their appearance.

I've never ridden a defy but they are supposed to be nice.

The prices of bikes are meant to be going up this year so perhaps Giant have equipped their Defys with lesser components to maintain their RRP.

I saw a couple of days ago that someone had a link to the ribble site where you could build (choose your components) a carbon bike for just over €1000.

I have a Canyon so I guess I could speak for them when I say that they are really nice. They've got much better spec alu' bikes than either of those Defys on their website. A lot of their stock has been sold however so you might be better off looking in their outlet https://www.canyon.com/_en/outlet/list.html?type=race

How about one of these from wiggle: Both have significantly better spec than the Defy.

Took a friend to LBS to help him pick out a bike on b2w.

He wants to commute and do the odd weekend spin so looked at Defy's.

All the components are downgraded. I used to have an old SCR3 which had rear Tiagra, FD Sora and sora shifters. Last year a friend got the newer Defy 3 with similar (maybe a rear Sora, cant remember) This years Defy 2 the rear is sora and the front and shifters are unbranded...maybe 2200??(if thats what they are called). And the Defy 3 is all 2200.. Was shocked at that as they are the same RRP as previous years.

prbably be better for someone to look for a second had older model for the same price as the brand new lower spec models! Thats what Im doing for the GF anyways.

We looked at a Trek 1.2 as well, which apart from a different paint job is similar. He ended up going for a Felt F85 after I convinced him to spend the little extra...105s with microshift levers (thats a conversation for another thread!) think he made the right choice, I have the F75 and love it.

So Giant may fall out of favour.. too many around as said above anyways...but used to be a solid entry bike! Are we looking at similar trends across the brands? I know I got a full 105 groupset for my '10 F75 but the 11 is mixed components.

NOTE: may be some inaccuracies above which Im sure will be corrected but you get the idea..
