    Hey,

I was wondering what time would you need to leave Waterford City to get to Rathmines for around 8 am? I don't know much about the traffic levels from Newlands Cross-M50-Templeogue-Terenure at 7-7:30 in the morning.

    Thanks.

    Hi Willie,

    There's two alternatives here:

    1) Waterford - Red Cow - M50 Southbound - Exit 11 for Templeogue/Tallaght - drive through Templeogue, Terenure, arrive Rathmines.

    2) Waterford - Red Cow - City Centre Lanes (not M50) - follow the Luas along Naas Road towards Inchicore - Right turn onto the Grand Canal (again following the Luas). Arrive at Portobello/Rathmines Upper.

I would favour Option 2 and AA Roadwatch recommends it. Leave at 5.45am for an 8am arrival.

The Grand Canal in the morning is best avoided if as it's one long line of cars along with many bottlenecks. OP, I'd take the Templeogue-Terenure option as it's less complicated overall though it too is slow.

    Thanks for that, Jim Bob.

The thread title should have read Lower Rathmines!:o

    Any other suggestions, anyone?

Lower Rathmines might lend itself to the Templeogue/Terenure route...

I'll leave it to the battle-weary Dublin commuters to debate the merits of each route. I moved out of the city a few years ago:) . Hence I'm rusty.
