What are the implications on breaking a years rental contract after 6 months? Obviously they would get to keep the deposit paid and what would a reasonable amount of notice be (next rent due 5th October)? Any info would be appreciated.

Usually one months notice must be given to landlord

    Depends on your contract.
If it is a standard one year lease with no break clause, they could go after you for the reminder of the lease- ie the other 6 months, unless you provide a new tenant to take over from you.
