Haven't checked it out yet but I've been meaning to, Ragg posted this on the "squats the story" thread, sounds dead handy if you've a large freezer:

northsiders - check out kerrigans meat factory store in the baldoyle industrial estate.

I got 40 chicken fillets for 25 quid or something. It was on special, but it's great value on everything and perfect if you get paid monthly.

I was in Super Valu here in Cavan yesterday and there were selling a 3 x 5 Pack of Chicken Fillets for €10 i.e 15 for €10.

I ended up buying 30 fillets in total and am going to go back and get more today. The freezer will be busting with them :D

    Lads,

I always laugh when I read I got 40 c.breasts for x. The weight is more important.

A c.breast can be anywhere from 100-270 grams in weight.

Check out your local eastern shop, one of my nearby ones has started doing goats meat at 7e a kilo, which is a fantastic price if the meats any good imo. Haven't tried it yet but will soon.

If your near a Tescos try hitting it after approx 8pm and look at the bargain shelf.

This is where the almost out of stuff produce go on sale.

I usually finish the gym around 9pm and walk straight into Tescos, Clarehall and dine on a decent steak for supper.

One other thing is does anyone buy on taste or purely price?

The chicken I get now is cheaper and better value than the supermarkets.

One of the thing s i noticed about Oz was the sze of the chicken breasts, a breat here from the counter is 250-400g. Even, the packs (which tend to be smaller) are around the 500-600g mark for 2 breasts, its hard to find any smaller than that

    400g - sure that's not an Ostrich!?:) That's huge.

I get 18/19 breast for @ €30.00 but the net weight is always 5kg.

Not sure why it is rare to get large ones here. I got a large chicken in dunnes, maybe 2.2kg and the breasts were 350g each, I think the chicken was €7 so it worked out €10 per kilo just for the fillets.

Mick Doyles in dunlaoghaire did large ones, I never got them though.

The size of the breasts is controlled. The 260-270g ones have the inner and outer fillets on it and then of course you could buy the inner on it's own which might be 100-120g with the outer being 140-170g.

Bear in mind two continental co's distribute 300,000 kilos of chicken to Ireland & UK every week - just fresh fillets. You can double that for frozen fillets!

That is a lot of chicken but the quality is good and it comes in 3 days a week.

The butchers in sallynoggin usually has 10 for €10, it says 130-140g on the packets and that is what they are whenever I bothered to weigh them.

My tesco (I think many) have whole cooked chickens for €4 on the deli counter. I went in around 6 or 6.30 one day and picked up a few for €2 each. Fairly small but nice, the meat falls off them. Even full price is very good.

I imagine many here do not care much about taste, some are just boiling them up.

    I know, massive.
They always have both inner and outer breasts on them.
I'll buy one from the counter next week and show you. It'll do do two dinners.
Strangely the eggs are tiny. 2 large eggs is 140 cals or so (pack data)

I think the reason for that is the amount of water and hormones they are allowed to pump into the chicken over there that the EU wont allow here.
Its in OZ I started growing my moobs - and I think its because of the amount of chicken I ate there !

Taste is very important to me.
That is about €7.50 per kilo for the fillets, not bad less than the supermarkets at any rate.

It applies to the organic chickens too.

And it wasn't the chicken, or any type food, that gave you moobs.
It was just that you ate too much :D

Two Butchers in the Square, Tallaght doing 10 fillets for E7.99. Seems to be a permanent price too.

it is very unfortunate that they are small fillets though.:(

I get my fillets from here http://themeatfactoryoutlet.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=18&category_id=6&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=9

    about 150g-170g per fillet

Bumping this thread: for anyone interested Lidl are selling 400g of mini chicken fillets for €3. Works out at €7.50 a kilo.

If anyone knows of other places in south Dublin in particular that do cheap chicken fillets please share :)

I'm all for cheap meat but can we also let others no if it was any good as well.

There is from my experience a big difference in the taste of meats and the price does not always mean it will taste better.

My personal opinion on the Lidl chicken is that it tastes good!! A little bit of cajun spices and whack them on the George Forman.....delish! Seriously I thought it tasted good, maybe others will disagree.

Chicken fillets are pretty boring tbh so I rarely go for them anymore. I just buy whole chickens instead and devour that.
