    Hello there,

I'm trying to help a friend and his english language school. We're looking at lots of different options for interactive whiteboards.

So far there seems to be several major options but it boils down to rear-projected "boards and projector boom" or the more advanced "plasma and touch overlay" systems. Both have their advantages and disadvantages and I was hoping to get some coal-face (chalkface?) feedback about the realities of using them in the field.

Do any of you have them installed in your education centres and if so, how do you find them?

We're also looking at Promethean and SmartBoard as software vendors but again, each seems to have pluses and minuses...

Any help would be great! Thanks!

    DeV.

Have a look at anseo.net, it's brilliant. They've got an IWB comparison tool on the site where you can put in what you're looking for and compare different products.

I use one sometimes that involves writing onto the computer monitor which then displays it on screen through a projector, is that what you had in mind? I hate it, tbh. I use powerpoint for lectures the few times i give them, and its nice to be able to throw up notes on the fly, but its annoying and inaccurate. I still use the whiteboard if i'm doing worked examples - there aren't many others using it either as far as i know. Nothing wrong at all with chalk :)

I've used both Promethean and SmartBoard IWBs and I preferred the Promethean. Promethean software seems to be better as well. I've fairly limited experience of them though, so don't go on my opinion alone.

Great, thanks for the feedback (if anyone else has any comments do please leave them!).

The school is looking at overhead projector models but I would prefer something touch sensitive and less "ugly" and back-projected if I can.

That Anseo link is terrific, many thanks for that!

Hi, I got an e beam in my classroom. Basically uses a normal whiteboard that has a small device in the corner of the board that calibrates it to make it interactive. There is a projector attached to celing as well.
Bout half the price as prometheon and smart board and exactly the same function. I love mine and use it the whole time.
