I mean they are always slagging the poor man off about a bit of a drinking problem, but they never report on the things hes doing to help you and me, and get the country to get up and running again.

Is it time to start complaining to the media about their treatment of Brian and other politicians?

His drunken/hungover interview was the least of anyone's worries, and anyone who was complaining about it clearly had an agenda. I'm more worried about the destruction of this state at the hands of Fianna Fáil rather than some overnight binge.

Probably because no-one would buy blank newspapers.

    Such as?

Certain elements of the media (ie the Spindo) are pro - FF, but having said that, he still doesnt get the riding he deserves from the critics, who are too polite.

I mean they are always slagging the poor man off about a bit of a drinking problem, but they never report on the things hes doing to help you and me, and get the country to get up and running again.

Can you please list the things he is doing to help you and me? That way, I will know what to say in future threads about him rather than constantly put the man down.

Prior to the drinking stuff, we couldn't question his policy because it was a case of "sure we're working for the best interests of the economy...no one could have forseen it coming...let's not look at the past...international factors...etc" and when any suggestion was raised that he was the Minister for Finance during the most disasterous period in our economic history they say "ah sure don't mind what he's done".

After the drinking stuff, it's now "ah sure don't mind what he's doing, look what he's done" but when we look at what he's done it's "ah sure don't look at what he's doing or what he's done, look at what it will do." When we ask what he will do we're told "ah sure, he's got a plan, don't you worry sonny jim."

So honestly have we really gotten to the stage where our leader is beyond question? I agree that we should focus on his policies past present and future and not on his drinking, but FF are deliberately avoiding any debate about his policies. When asked about his past - "what's done is done, let's move forward", present - "we're working on it - I can't give you the specifics due to commerical senstivity but we have a plan" future - "we're definately seeing signs that we've turned a corner (no not that last corner but now a new corner), sure time will tell that this is the right move, sure time will show that this is the cheapest bailout ever".

So really, whenever he is asked a question about his policies he asnwers by saying, bluntly, don't quesiton my policies; I'm right but I'm not going to tell you why. Is it any wonder then that the media latch onto this scandal because it is the only thing that they can criticise him about, but he says, "don't ask me about it, ask me about my policies instead."

It's like a skit really, and would make your head spin except for the fact that our spineless opposition and media seem to accept the rubbish that he shoots out every so often.

Show me one thing of substance that he has done. Honestly. 1 thing.

Ya wouldn't begrudge the chap an oul pint. No problem there.

Its more difficult to warm to the fact that he was the first guy to start spending more than he was taking in, spending twice as much as revenue the state was taking in, and as Finance Minister continued to do this for a number of years, thus fucking up the whole country.

You'd need a little something to help you sleep at night.

No. The facts speak for themselves. 70,000 emigrated, 450,000 claiming social welfare. Economy still contracting. Most expensive (per capita) bank bailout in the world. As minister for finance, and then Taoiseach, it happened under his watch. The buck stops with him, he's responsible.

Hard on Cowen? Not in the slightest. And what, praytell, has the great man done to help you and me?

My main problem with the media is they are too kid gloves with St. Lendahand.
