    Hi all,
As per the title im thinking about getting a new amp(valve or sstate). I don't need a monster to break windows, just something that can handle effects well without compromising tone. I already have a VOX AD50 but it doesnt seem to like external effects too much so was thinking about trading that in.

    Thanks for all replies.

What's your budget? What kind of music do you play? Is it just for home use, or will it be used for gigs.

My budget will be what ever I get as a trade on the VOX plus about 300 cash, it will be for home use but if it. I play light rock, blues and a small bit of jazz.

A fender blues junior is a cracking little amp. I say little, but it can get bloody loud, despite it only being 15watts

Blackstar have some great amps in the lower price range that wont cost too much or blow the roof off your house.

The chrome series Valvetronix don't seem to like dirt boxes for some reasons. I actually think it's to do with their speakers having a weird frequency response, and the front end being too easily overloaded(generally you'll want a dirt box above unity gain, so it's louder than your cleans and gets a bit of your amp's dirt on top).

The Fender Mustang II I tried seemed pretty neato. Modelling amps often seem to have issues with pedals for some reason. But a lot of tube amps don't take them well either - people usually use specific amps(often Fenders, Hiwatts, or a Jazz Chorus) for using pedals. Solid State amps are more popular among dirt box users(like Johnny Greenwood) since they often recreate the tones better, a lot of dirt boxes assume they may get thrown in front of a less than stellar amp.

Second hand peavey classic 30. Picked one up this week on adverts. Great clean, blues and classic rock crunch in one amp. I used to have a classic 50 a few years ago and so glad to have another classic back in the house. Great amps
