Yep, you go down to the council office, fill in the form, submit it, someone comes to assess the current house you live in and you, if you are classed as having a need for housing, then you go on a waiting list and wait for a house to become available.

Unless you have 2 kids, you cant get a council house, a parent with 1 kid gets a council flat or apartment,i know a woman was told ,go off have another kid and you,ll get a house,by a council official.
you get x amount of points, for no of kids, how much space you have now, other factors, then they give out homes/flats to who has the most points, you get to choose 3 areas to live in.SAY you choose dublin 15 ,better chance of getting house, theres more houses there, than say area x where 90 per cent of houses have been bought out by the tenants.
YOU may get extra points for medical, health reasons.

get your name on the list, and be prepared to wait for the rest of your life. I've been waiting 8 years, and recently told there are no plans to provide housing in my area. Unless you're related to a politician, or are in a major town, forget it.
