Gatso Vans on the Road again

Just spotted two usual gatso speed traps over the last two days but it looks like they are using the newer Garda Vans.

Just a note to take heed of your speed in the usual spots.

This morning the van was parked on the Ballymun Road just past the entrance to DCU. 50km is the limit but its an easy place to be driving over the limit if the traffic is light.

Seeing as they are not marked and to make things a little fairer here's the reg numbers of 8 of them, all white transit vans... biggrin.gif

<Modnote: reg numbers snipped as per the Charter>

I saw one on the Navan road near Cabra Garda station with a big Garda sign on the side, looked like a magnetic sign.

Going to laois yesterday and on the naas carriageway there were 2 speed guns within 2 -3 miles of each other.
One guy half hidden with the gun out an unmarked mondeo window.
One guy in a fiat people carrier (marked) with the gun out the window.
    Fish, shooting, barrel............

I think the honour for fish goes to the N4 80kph all the way to leilip then 120 straight after.

there was an interesting article in the Sunday Tribune recently about the distribution of penalty points by county...Donegal and Kerry have the lowest % of the population with points. Counties in Leinster - which have the most km's of motorways - had the highest

    Safety my arse.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Two new locations for ye.

Westbound on M4 just before exit ramp for Tullamore exit. They sit on the hard shoulder right before the exit ramp with the hazard lights on. Seen it twice there. Looks like someone working on the road from a distance (litter pickers etc).

Night time after the crappy Guns and Roses concert on N7 southbound (3 lanes 100kph). At about 12.30am parked up on hard shoulder right before Johnstown haulage. No hazards on this time but not a very safe spot. They were using the older square window vans at the time.

    maybe, maybe not.

its PAST dcu - a good bit past the entrance. there are traffic lights at DCU and a bus stop there so its a fair cop if you're speeding through there. however, the usual spot they use is a good bit further down the road - three lanes (albeit one is a bus lane) on a very wide road going downhill, i regularly hit 50kms down that way on my bicycle.

Hey, is it only vans guys? I believe i saw unmarked white estate car (like that white vauxall estate here http://malcp.com/cars.htm but probably sth else) with black tinted windows standing beside the road on navan road this morning. looked suspicious -> vans with speed cameras that I saw before looked similar (white/tinted windows).

exact location was n3/navan lane going out of dublin between halfway house and m50 roundabout just behind esso station on the left side. what makes it scary I saw them just after 50KM sign, rest of the road is 80. If my guess is right they had good fishing, me included (if they were going for "50 limit") :( Its usually the place where everybody starts slowing down from 80 and not already drive 50.

also recently I very frequently see them in this area either in lane going to dublin or out, usually around the bridge going over navan.

    Came across this yesterday
gatso van parked at side of the road
2 Garda directing traffic past the van
they were not looking at tax or insurance discs but they were recieving instructions from inside the gatso van about details from passing slow moving traffic(must also have anpr system inboard)
they had impounded 2 cars there and then

Yep, the vans are spread across several marques in random colours. You won't know it's a gatso van until you're on top of it. We're fooked. :D

Can't believe this thread has got this far without someone saying

"if you stick to the speed limit you won't have to worry about where the gatos's are"

I ain't going to be the one to say it though :D

I think the stats posted earlier says it all, Leinster is all about revenue generation.
