I always hear people saying that if you leve apps running in the background it eats the battery, is there a way to see what apps are running so I can close them? I always just press the circle button to get out of apps

Pressing the home button "freezes" the app, more often than not its not actually running in the background except in certain specific cases, like music playback, data downloads (which end when finished), GPS (you'll see an icon on the top of the phone), VoIP (only while on call), Push Notifications (pretty much always running anyway, same as 3.x), Local Notifications (similar, but run from the phone OS so of no real change).

Thanks for that. But is there anywhere I can view running apps outta curiosity

Double click the Home button. It won't show you precisely what apps are "running" but you will see a list of apps in the order that you last used them. Press and hold until the icons jiggle to be able to close apps or remove icons from the list.

Have you not updated to iOS 4 yet? Backgrounding apps only started with the new update.

Aaahhh ok, nah I'm still on the old one and it's jailbroken so I can't update it now. Thanks!

Install backgrounder from Cydia if you need to do it on yours, but it sounds like you're trying to prevent backgrounding rather than enable it. :)
