Working part time

    Hi everyone,

I have recently applied a part time subbing job in my locality, its hour a day for five days. My husband has been made redundant over the last year and he is claiming for myself and two children. Can I work the five hours a week without our dole being stopped? I heard from a friend its irrelevant how many hours you work once its spread out over the five days its counted as five days work which doesn't sound right.

thanks for your help, much appreciated ;)

From what I've heard your friend is right, think this is because its job seekers benefit so you are meant to be available for work, if you work 1 hour a day that is seen as being unavailable to work on the days you work. I could be wrong, but this is how I understand it. It's terrible that people are being dis-couraged from working.

I'm afraid your friend is correct OP. You are allowed work a maximum of 3days per week. It doesnt make sense surely working an hour a day 5 days a week is better than doing nothing.

If you had your own claim it would affect you.
But because your husband is claiming and getting paid for you, he just needs to inform his local office that you are working, and depending on the amount you earn, his payment may be reduced. The hours don't really come into play or when they are, just the earnings.
