    Hey everyone
I completed the Cliffs half on saturday and was thrilled with my 2.16 time... i probably should have pushed myself harder and i knew i could for a better time, but since it was my first half i wasn't sure of my capabalities. I felt great after it. Found the hills fine. Anyway... what to do next, any advise would be welcomed. Do i do a few more halfs before a full marathon and improve my time or do i bite the bullet and train for the marathon that i came across in november in clonakility? i was up to 14 miles before the half. I started training for the 10k in April then decided to train for the 10 mile, then decided on the half. I never planned to do a marathon this year. So i am not sure if i am physically or mentally ready for one this year??

Just my opinion, wait to next year before doing a full marathon. You'll be glad of the extra miles in your legs when you get to the big training weeks.

Maybe try to get a couple of more halfs into your legs before taking on a full marathon. There is Waterford in December, maybe another half in the spring and then aim for Cork in June as your full.

Well done on a good race experience, and like the drug running is you'll be dying for your next fix, but as the previous comments have said you'd be better off to aim to improve your time in the half and give yourself plenty of time to step up to the full marathon, as it is a good step up. Try the Waterford half in December then build the miles and aim for a good spring marathon, you'll enjoy it more with some long runs in your legs..best of luck in your endeavours.

Have to agree with others as well. I think you should have a min of a years running/training done before thinking about doing a full.

Try and improve your speed at distances with a mixture of 10K - Half Marathon races. There are also some good Ten Miler races run in the spring in the Munster area, Kilnaboy and Ballycotton are 2 that spring to mind.

I would aim for Cork but if you are eager to get one in earlier try Limerick in May, I think both Belfast and Connemara would be too tough to try as a first Marathon, and Ballyvaughan is really hard and off road.

Phew thanks guys i was hoping that would be the advice given :)
Going to sign up for the Waterford half in december and improve my time. Would it be possible to do sub 2 hours then do you think?? I am pretty disciplined about getting out in the rain/hail/snow. Do i do more interval training. Currently run tuesdays( not every tuesday) , thursdays, saturday and sunday. And a fitness class on Monday and wedensday and pilates on tuesday. Lsr at the weekends do i keep that distance up at 13miles or do i do more?? Interval training usually on thursday and then 5 miles on tuesday when i can and 5 on saturday.
ger664: i wouldnt say i would be eager to get one done as such.... but i really HATE running in the heat just doesn't suit me... so Limerick might be a goer in may instead of Cork in June..... anyway that a while away yet. time to concentrate ona sub 2 half for now
