Got a new TV yesterday and trying to get movies from my laptop to play on it. I brought my laptop to DID yesterday and was also told to purchase a VGA cable and an audio (one green jack and 2 at the other end, 1 red, 1 white). I followed instructions and attached the pinned my laptop to the TV using the pinned VGA cable. I then put the green jack into the headphones slot and put the red into red and the white into white as you would do but there was no sound.

I have been pulling my hair out about this so any help would be gratefully appreciated. The only thing i have read online is peoples suggestion of going into control panel (my laptop is an Acer 53
z bought in January) and into sound and switching your default playing device from speakers, unfortunately mine doesn't offer anything but speakers so i can change nothing here.

Please show me the way someone! ;-)

Try right-clicking on the desktop, going to Properties and there should be something about the screen or some malarky, you then click on duplicate.

Whats you TV Make and model number.

What Input label is on the red / white connections you are using.

My TV has a 3.5mm (Headphone jack) for the sound with the VGA input not the phono leads you have.

Cheers. Tv is a Hannspree Model: HSG 1115 and the laptop is aspire 5732z. As regards input labels : Left and right audio, and above a green (Y) Blue (Pb) Red (Pr) and above that audio in which is too loose for the either of the red or white connectors which sound like they might work when forced in and held, Do i just need a cable with 2 headphone jacks in?

    No bother.

From the Manual you are using the wrong cable.

The VGA input should have a headphone jack beside it labelled Audio In (Page 18 of the manual) so you need a 3.5mm jack on both ends.

DID should have them (or any electronics store) looks like
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Stereo-Jack-Plug-1-2M/dp/B00077DC3S

If they dont have them they may have an adapter for the cable you already have be sure to bring that with you.

Be sure to check the connection is on your tv before you go buy another cable you dont need. God knows I have enough of them.
