I am in the market for a 2005/06 Volvo S80. Is there anything I should be looking out for or any major issues I should be aware of.

My reason for going down this road is expanding family and need for a good bit of space in the rear seats. We (wife and I) were thinking of S60, but seemingly leg room is very poor.

I have wanted a nice luxury car for cheap money (10k or less) and the S80 seems to beat a 5 series or E Class or Jag S Type on price while being in the same bracket comfort wise. I'm not that into speed, so the 2L Turbo option is fine for me. Are there any other options I've left out?

Underrated car in my opinion that seem to have fallen off the radar of the public in general. Early models ('99-01) were supposedly unreliable and quite commonly had ETM (Electronic Throttle Module) failures, but I think later models were a lot more better. Don't expect it to be economical either, as they're all five cylinder (although very nice).

For comfort, space, lots of equipment and a brilliant sound system, the S80 is hard to beat at the money they go for. Anyone I've ever talked to who owned one has been quite happy too, so I'd say you could do a lot worse.

    Thanks volvoman.

I've just come across this http://www.gumtree.ie/dublin/36/66042136.html

I've talked to a view dealerships and obvioulsy their quoted price drops a nice bit once you start talking with them, but even so the price on the one linked seems very low. 134,000 kms and FSH.

    What do you think?

It's a big executive car and has a manual gearbox, so that probably goes some way to explaining why it's so reasonably priced. I wouldn't let that put you off though, because as well as the car being cheaper, the manual gearbox will be considerably more economical.

Overall it looks a good, honest car and seems to be pretty genuine. It's not absolute top spec as the seller says but has the essentials like leather and parking sensors. If it was top spec it would be what was called an 'SE Premium' and have upgraded wheels over the ones that are on it. That said, it does have the winter pack (heated seats and headlamp wash/wipe), which is nice.

If the seller and the car all turn out to be 100% then I see no reason not to buy that car, it's probably one of the best examples of that shape S80 in the country.
