Just a follow on from the story that broke back in June about possibly the small 9-2 using MINI running gear.

According to this article looks like the deal is to be rubber stamped on Wednesday. You can read more here:

Saab will have access to BMW's 4 cylinder diesels, which will be a big advantage for them, provided BMW actually makes diesels with turbos that will actually last the pace of course!

BMW have had very few issues with Turbos since 2004. That's 7 years ago.

And the small 1.6 diesel unit in the MINI is from PSA afaik.

The E90 still gives plenty of turbo trouble(and so does the 520d), and there are still swirl flap problems. Not as bad as the older model but the problems are still there. Maybe the 177 hp versions are better, but then again they are quite new so they are unlikely to go kaputt this soon(even BMW turbos last more than 3 years). The 163 hp version gives plenty of turbo trouble if the positive crankcase breather is not changed during a service.

Not anymore it's not;)! The facelifted version will be using a BMW 1.6 diesel engine.

Anyway, Saab are going to be using BMW's 1.6 turbo petrol, though curiously there is no mention at the moment of BMW's diesel engines, which are of more relevance to the European markets, especially in the bigger models like the 9-5 which is horrendously inefficient in automatic guise.

Interesting that it is a 1.6 litre four cylinder engine, where does this fit in with BMW's plans for a three cylinder engine? Hopefully BMW will bin that distinctly non-premium idea, I heard BMW were talking about a 1.5 litre three cylinder engine, but surley it is daft to have a three cylinder 1.5 and a four cylinder 1.6 as well?
