My next door neightbour has decided to move out of his house and he has told me that he intends to rent out his house.

At present we only have a wooden partition between our houses and not knowing who he intends to rent his house out to, I am considering building a brick wall for privacy purposes.

Do I need his consent to build this new wall?
Or can I just go ahead and build the wall?

    Thanks in advance.

I think you should ask first. You need his permission if its on the boundary and planning permission if its over a certain height. The price can be shared if the wall is on the boundary and if you build it totally on your land then its at your cost. Id talk to the neighbour
