Private Coach/Bus Service

    Hi Folks,

The Dublin Bus service in my area is fairly poor. Bus leaves at 7.50am and arrives in town at around 9.00-9.15am. I know plenty of people around the area that are unhappy with the service, its quite a young area and there are plenty of young professionals working in town. I'm wondering what would be involved in setting up a private bus service to get people in for a reasonable time i.e. 8.30am or so. I know I could achieve this by using a direct route (rather than the round the world route the Dublin bus uses).

Obviously there are several concerns, but I think the main two are

    >Compitition - The Dublin bus service - it's poor but its still there, they charge €2.20 into the CC, I doubt I'd be able to compete at that price level!
    >Setup costs - Upon initial lookup, coaches are quite expensive, along with the obvious other costs - Diesel, tax, insurance etc.

I'm wondering if anyone is either in the business, or looked at the business but opted out, maybe for the above reasons?

I am in this game. You have the main problems there, i.e., 'competition' which is sometimes a euphimism for running people out of business, price, high fixed costs. There are also serious regulatory issues.
