    Sporting Braga vs Shaktar Donetsk

Braga have a great home record so far this season having won every game played at the Donbass Arena, and Shaktar have a very decent away record, 1 loss and 1 draw out of six on the road in. This is gonna be tight.

With Shaktars young squad, albeit alot smaller than Bragas, solid defence (onlyl conceded 5 goals in 12 games) and mids and forwards who can score, they fear no-one in their group. I fancy them at 5/4 DNB on PP for value.

Plan on doubling them up with Bayern at 19/20 away to Basel.

    €10 double returns €43.88

    Good luck all.

Like the look of Bayern away to Basle as well. Bayern are playing crap in the Bundesliga, they got beaten at home 2-1 on Sat to table-toppers Mainz. They miss both Ribery and Robben but they still have enough quality to beat Basle with practically half the German team playing. Have Basel a plastic pitch?

Might do a treble of Valencia, Bayern and Barca so that is one treble to avoid as I havnt gotten a soccer bet up in ages.

Edit: Might throw in Spartak but they are only around 4-9 but Zilina looked awful at home to Chelsea in the last round.

    Rooney hasnt travelled to Spain

im not sure is that a good or bad thing

I hate betting against United but Valencia are looking like a good bet. United without Giggs and Rooney. For some reason i was thinking this would be the game that Rooney scored in. 3 away draws this season and are conceding too many easy goals. Couldn't score against Rangers. Going by form Valencia are by far the better team at the moment. They destroyed Bursapor away and have been winning convincingly in La Liga. Even against a good Atletico team they managed to get back into it and grab a goal.

Not sure if i'd bother with the 1x2 market but there are good odds on a home win. The both to score and over 2.5 looks decent. Aduriz at 3.20 anytime goalscorer is good odds too.

Anyone got any thoughts on milan. At 17/10pp they must be worth a punt. I know milan have not been great this season but after watchin ajax against real madrid where the score should of been about 14 nil to real, ajax looked terrible. Might stick them in a double with portsmouth who are 10/11.

Ajax are a different team when they play at home, if I was betting id go for overs in this match

Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid all to win -1 gives back odds of about 16/1

A bit of team news for this week:

A couple of big namesset to miss out this week are Messi, Pato and Rooney which add a bit of value to the home opponents.

Spurs are without most of their defense and I'll definitely be looking at the overs in that 1 with Harry coming out and saying they're "going for it" and I'll be backing Luuk De Jong to score @ 5/1(SB) and bag a brace @ 50/1 on PP

Not trying to be swarmy here by saying I've watched Ajax every game this season, but I am a fan. We're a lot more solid in the league this year but Europe is a different story.

Jol's press conference yesterday suggests we'll be very defensive to begin with, even though we're at home. I think we're going to sit back, probably more than we did away to FC Twente on Saturday.

I could go into the team further if you're interested in who should play, but my main point is: I expect AC Milan to win 1-0 or 2-0. However, with Luis Suarez on the pitch, there's always the chance of a goal.

I'm excited to see Zlatan back at the ArenA, but worried too. I fancy a goal from the big guy.

You realise Donbass Arena is Shakhtar's stadium in Donetsk? Braga play in the AXA.

    great odds

"AC Milan also have that quality. With players like Ronaldinho, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], Robinho and Pato – who is out at the moment – you have to find a solution for that in defence. But up front, where we play at least five attacking players, we will also have to play the way we normally do at home."

so the ajax I know play attacking soccer at home

the only logical bet I can see is overs @ 5/6

"We have to play like we played on Saturday, during the first half against FC Twente.”

I took this as meaning sitting back and hitting on the counter instead of dictating the midfield. I may be wrong, but I reckon that's why we might see Lindgren keep his place instead of De Zeeuw. Demy is more of a passer and brings the ball out more. Lindgren breaks up play better so I reckon his inclusion would mean being on the backfoot more in the middle.

Emanuelson is a player he'll be including in that attacking 5, but he's also an accomplished fullback and has the energy to get back if he's needed. I say Milan by 1 or 2, but I don't see us shipping 4 or 5 against them as some people think.

tbh 8-10 its a must win for Ajax and I see them attacking, I couldnt see them being Defensive at the Amsterdam arena

    we'll see how it goes

I put a 10 on Ibra & benzma to score in 90 minutes and AC Milan/Real Madrid to win the match 4/1...2/1

Guys both Ajax and Milan were 2.78 last night on betfair,Ajax plummeted down to 2.48 this afternoon, while Milan's have shot up to 3.25.

Wonder what news came out recently?

Pato being out, I would guess? I think the media are reading too much into that really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 522 ✭✭✭ValueSeeker

Or Ajax being tipped on a big betting website. The Bettingzone havn't tipped them though. I thought Ibra picked up a knock when I saw the odds tumble myself but it's jsut Pato it seems.

Getting the urge to lump a biteen on Shakhtar tonight :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭El Horseboxo

Hasn't Pato been injured for about 2 weeks now anyways.

One of the specials on PP looks good. Chelsea to win and Malouda to score @ 2/1. With Drogba out and also his goal scoring form i reckon he's a good shout to get on the scoresheet. Also Chelsea at home should win against Marseille.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,975 ✭✭✭iMuse

What do people reckon of a madrid, chelsea double @ just over evens? Madrid are bound to win 2nite at auxerre after the crap performance at the weekend and chelsea should have enough for marseille

Well they are two very strong favorites against weaker opposition. They should win but anything can happen. Madrid look very strong at the back and i would be surprised if they concede. They just need to get it together up front. And Ronaldo needs to just be more direct and stop with all that show boating shít and shooting when there's no shot on. Chelsea also strong at the back and at home and we all know what they are like on the attack. Missing Drogba and Lampard but i still think they should be Marseille. They are a class or two above them.

I'll be backing Chelsea (-1) at evens.

Have not seen Spartak this season but I've kept an eye on their results over the last few weeks. One guy stands out and that's Welliton, their star striker who has bagged 16 goals this season.

Welliton to score in 90 minutes and Spartak Moscow to win the match is @ 13/10

Zilina looked really poor at home to a weakened Chelsea(no Drogba and Lampard) side on Matchday 1 and could have conceded a few more had Chelsea not taken the foot of the gas in the 2nd half.

Going to have something on that when I hear confirmation of the teamsheet.

For anyone keeping up to date with McGeady's progress in Russia (and have more faith in him than me), the wincast for him is 3/1 .

I read that he's getting on well (indo/tribune, can't find a link) but that
he's sticking to the wing more, swinging in crosses rather than trying to get in the box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭El Horseboxo

McGeady scored the weekend and looked good. Injected a bit of pace into the game at times when it seemed to slow down. I'd much prefer Welliton or Ari to score tonight though. I was reading that the Zilina manager said they won't sit back and will play attacking football. Think that should suit Spartak better because in the Russian league they struggle to score against defensive minded teams.

Spurs to outscore Arsenal @ 6/4

    FC Basle – Bayern Munich

I think the odds on the away win here are extremely tempting. Basle come into this game off a fantastic win at the weekend away in Vienna and their form in the league so far has been middling, dropping points at some of their biggest rivals. They’ve only won two of their last six games in the league. Bayern have also started the season slowly yet again and haven’t really gotten going yet. A good win away against Hoffenheim was undone at the weekend by losing to Mainz at home which came at a relatively big shock. They’ll be very eager to rectify their relatively poor form and I trust them to do so here tonight.

Basle haven’t been all that impressive in qualification for the group stages and could only manage a 1-0 win at home against Sheriff in the third round, albeit finishing the tie 4-1 over two legs. However when one has a look at their last Champions League campaign it makes for pretty grim reading, losing five out of the six games they played including all three at home. If Basle had much hope of advancing in this year’s competition they surely would have looked to their matches against Cluj to pick up points and unfortunately they lost their first game against them 2-1 two weeks ago. On the other hand there is no real need to go into too much depth over Bayern’s form in this competition considering their success, but ultimate failure, last season. They have begun this season’s competition with an added incentive and this could be seen in their 2-0 win over Roma in their first game. Last season they started the group stages poorly but finished it with an incredible dismantling of Juventus in Turin, beating them 4-1. They also beat Maccabi Haifa, a team relatively close to Basle’s standings, 3-0 while in that poor run.

Jacques Zoua is the noticeable absentee for the home side who have a relatively fit squad to choose from. The two R’s are massive losses for the visitors as we’re well aware. Robben and Ribery would be missed by any team in the world but the replacement are they to ease those absences and Bayern should still have enough going forward to seriously trouble the Swiss. Olic, Klose, Muller, Altintop and company are capable of scoring at any time.

All in all, Bayern should have too much for Basle tonight in my eyes and I think the bookies are over-reacting to the standard poor start to the season from Bayern. Tonight they also have an added incentive with Louis van Gaal having signed a new contract on Monday.

    Bayern win at 19/20

Zilina have 2 defenders booked and with the pace of Spartaks attack and the wet ground a sending off for them looks a good possibility. Not sure if anyone has an in play red card though.

I agree with this having only seen the 1st half of this Zilina match. McGeady and Kombarov seem to be very wide with Ari playing a sort of free-role behind Welliton.

McGeady is playing very well and had a pop early on but chances are mainly falling to Ari and Alex in the centre with Welliton having a few half chances and making good runs.

I'd predict this to go to finish 2-0 with one of the above Brazilians getting it.
