i have recently started back into cycling, mid 20s and living in leixlip. i have looked into clubs but the thought of training and racing has put me off!! i prefer a leisure cycle without the competitive side. is there a club or group that go out during the weekend for a spin or would any people be interested in organsing a group of us to go out? i have the fitness behind me just need to scrub up on confidence on the bike and its more enjoyable with a few others to join in :)

I live in Celbridge myself. use the bike for getting to work. It was 100% dark this morning (yes i have lights) so I reckon it will be back to the bus soon and cycling on the weekends so give me a shout, and i'll go for a spin.

Lucan Cycling Club have spins leaving from Stagg Cycles Shop most Saturday morning at 930. They do 60-80km, usually stopping for coffee somewhere. The first is introductory. After that I think you have to join the Club but there is no pressure to race etc. There is a touring/leisure section in the club which organizes longer spins and weekends away. There is also a group who focus primarily on the sportives. Maybe check out their website.

Just came across these guys, mite be what you're looking for:

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Breakaway-Cycling-Club/112223878813101

Looks more like a leisure cycling club rather than a racing club.

The Plonkers (or Les Plonqueres as is their official title) do a fairly leisurely spin on the weekends. I think they leave from the carpark of Celbridge House pub at 9 or 10 (can't remember exact details).

Sound bunch of lads and the pace is generally laid back.

You could also try the Maynooth Galway Cycle crew who leave from gates of Maynooth College on Saturday or Sunday mornings at 10. Their training spins will cater for all levels of cyclist and will progress in distance as they prepare for another charity cycle from Maynooth College to Galway.

    Hope that helps....

Just a thought, if theres enough boardsies in the area we should arrange a couple of local spins! I'm a Celbridge head myself and i know theres plenty of lurkers on here who are close by!;)
