help finding rope

maybe someone could help me , i am looking for a thick rope suitable for use a a fitness tool - a climbing rope - maybe the type used to tie boats up with - any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Understand that if you go with climbing rope, most are "dynamic", meaning they are a little bit elastic and will stretch. This may or may not be a good thing for your application. You can also get "static" climbing rope, that will stretch very little. You may be able to buy it by the metre in an outdoor shop like the great outdoors?
