    From today's indo.
ONE of Bertie Ahern's final thoughts as Taoiseach was that Irish people weren't happy enough. So he set up the Active Citizenship Taskforce to see what could be done.
Some real heavy hitters were drafted in to join the taskforce -- and its interim steering group.
These included former NIB boss John Trethowan, ex-Bank of Ireland director Mary Redmond, GAA president Sean Kelly, ICTU beardie David Begg, Mary Davis of the Special Olympics, former Progressive Democrat TD Bobby Molloy, secretary general of the Department of the Taoiseach Dermot McCarthy, National College of Ireland boss (and Sean FitzPatrick's sister) Joyce O'Connor, plus a stack of other charity types.
The body cost €383,000 between 2006 and 2007. Around €15,000 was spent on official entertainment. The question of whether we are happier since this taskforce was created has yet to be answered -- but higher taxes, Seanie FitzPatrick and the horrors of Nama may weigh heavily on the answer. Following the report by An Bord Snip Nua, the taskforce was earmarked for closure in 2010.

No wonder the country is bust, and people would still vote for this guy as president

Perhaps it wasn't, but we mustn't brush these things under the carpet and let ahern off on a free ride to the aras.
