just looking for a bit of advice
I play off 12(1st gui hc this year started on 15 ) and hope to get to single figures but my driving is very inconsistent.my mates reckon my driving is the only thing stopping me from getting to single figures.
Anyhows got mc guirks vouchers for my birthday enough for a new driver and im tinking of getting custom fit for a driver.
Just wondering has anyone got custom fitted for a driver and has it helped your game much

Lots on here have had their clubs custom fitted. I had my driver custom fitted by Foregolf and found them excellent. Generally speaking you'll use the driver quite a lot in your average round so if there's anything you can do to improve your chances of hitting well I'd highly recommend it.

Got custom fitted for a driver 2 years ago with McGuirks and it brought my handicap down from 21 to 12. Can say driving is the strongest part of my game now. Used to suffer from a wicked slice, now have a controllable fade.

You should get properly fitted.. not by mcguirks. You can buy from mcguirks after if you like.

Anybody heard anything about David Keating in Killarney. Supposed to be excellent for custom fitting?

well went ahead and got custom fitted, your man doing the custom fitting was very helpfull..didnt realise how fast i was swinging the driver until i seen it on the screen which probably explains how i was duck hooking so much.ended up buying a ping g15 with a stiff shaft .
have played 3 rounds with it since i bought it and have noticed a massive improvement
gone are the duck hooks and the low trajectory.hitting the new driver very well prob getting 20-30 yards more distance .long may it last:D

the best place to get fit for clubs is with a certified clubmaker in your area who will make you a set just fir you

Don't mean to hijack the thread but...

Do custom fitters just find the right (pre-assembled) club from a range they have in stock

    and

a club maker take an individual shaft and fit it to an individual head (regardless of manufacturer?

or do they do both job's?

If you're getting your launch angle and swing speed etc measured in a custom fitting session remember that it's only your swing speed on that particular day that they can measure.
You may not be swinging at your best and so will end up with what can essentially be false readings.
Best get analysed in conjunction with a lesson and/or get analysed several times to get a clearer picture.
These one hour custom fitting sessions are nonsense unless you're absolutely positive your swing is in top shape.

ok when you go to a fitting first you go as if you are going to play a round of golf. Then the fitter will have about 10 clubs with a different set up and get you to hit each 1 twice by then you should be pretty much hitting within your swing speed and then he will begin the fit, you will hit about another 15 shots before he gets your swing speed. Your swing speed will be based on about 6 shots. Once the swing speed is conformed the shafts are made to work to with in a 10 mile an hour range, so the selection is pretty good. When it comes to your swing shape this is taken into account by the fitter when choosing a shaft for you .Remember your swing shape is your swing shape if you think you are going to change your swing to look like Tiger Woods think again, even he can't keep that up. Unlike his shaft he has no prob there:P

pre assembled clubs are set up for the shelf and that's were they should stay. They come from a factory with the cheapest labour on the planet and you are meant to support that by buying the **** they make. CLUBMAKING, a clubmaker will fit you by heads that suit you, shafts that suit you, grips that suit you, MOI swing weight the clubs to suit you, spine the shafts or also what is known as FLO the shafts, bend the lies to suit you, get the lofts bang on, get the CPM of the shaft bang on. Everything is set up to suit your ability, swing, size and power. Everything a clubmaker will do is to create a set of clubs to suit YOU not for mass production. Check this video out on youtube( precision golf part 1) it will give you a look at what a clubmaker can do. Hope this helps:)

    Thread hijack number 2, apologies

So, i'm going to get a new set of irons.... and some have mentioned that i should get custom fit by a pro. Thing is, i'm rubbish, i have nice swing, but my stance and set up is all over the shop (currently working on that for consistency)

My personal feeling is that custom fitting won't matter a damn to me, as i can't replicate a consistant swing. I've mentioned to my pro what to get, and he just advised a stiff shaft for my woods and a steel shaft for my irons, again echoing my own personal belief. (this pro does custom fitting for titlesit and cobra)

But what have you guys found, or whats your belief? Is custom fitting the domain of the skilled player, or can every benefit?

i got fitted for clubs 2 weeks ago for irons and a driver an got them last friday. Havent got out with them yet but hope to this week. Was using Ping i3 blades and was hitting them well when i had a consistent steady swing. When got fitted in Fore Golf they recommended either clevelands or callaways and i decided on clevelands blackperils. Off 6 now at the moment so hope these improve my game a bit more. Was using a Taylormade R7 super quad and got recommened a cleveland launcher also 9.5. I'll let you's know how i get on. Hopefully all goes well.

Let me put it like this, equipment that doesn't fit, that's the wrong length, or flex, or weight - can keep you from being all that you COULD be as a golfer. You need to understand how golf clubs work and adjusting your clubs to fit your own size, strength and athletic ability and swing characteristics will make you a better player. When you play better, you will enjoy the game more and ultimately, that's what it's all about! The ides of custom fitting is to have clubs in which the individual design characteristics of the clubhead, shaft, and grip are matched to your size, strength, athletic ability, and most of all, your swing characteristics. The proper custom fitting specifications can reduce and sometimes even eliminate some of the shot mistakes caused by your less skilled swing. Further, the clubs can also be custom assembled to the best weighting for YOU to allow you to maintain essentially the same swing throughout the set, yet give predictably different distance and trajectory results. In addition, true custom fitted clubs, in most cases, do not cost more than what you would pay for standard-made clubs off-the-rack. This is the essence of clubmaking and design. Unfortunately, it almost never happens because so few golfers ever do more in their search for their perfect golf clubs than to drive to the local golf shop or click on their computer. The average golfer could hit the ball 10 yards longer, hit 2 to 4 more fairways, hit 2 to 4 more greens in regulation, get the ball up and down 2 more times and get around in 3 to 5 fewer putts per round by simply realizing that the golf club is not a "club". IT IS NOT SOMETHING TO WHICH YOU NEED TO ADJUST - IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED TO YOU. It really IS a superbly designed, surgical quality, instrument-it you take the time to discover how it can be fitted to complement your swing. The idea here is to play the game with one swing and 14 controlled results-not 14 swings and 144 prayers! hope this helps

just remember there is a difference, a customfitter will order clubs that are made in a factory a clubmaker will order the parts and put them together personally for a truly bespoke set of clubs:)

Where can one go in Ireland to find a clubmaker? Are Fore Golf clubmakers?

Ideally, you need someone who is relatively local as you may require more than one or two visits. Check your clubfitter out, does he have a diploma and is he a member of the GCA, better still if he is a mastercraftsman! If you are in the Munster region, there is a guy in Cork City-Clubfit-who is building himself a good reputation, he would be worth a call. Alternatively, if you are in the Dublin area, then Fore Golf may be worth a call. Just remember if your chosen clubfitter is any good, they may require a few visits and follow ups to make sure that you are 100% happy with your clubs and that they are working 100% for you. Just make sure the clubmaker puts your set together from individual components that are suited specifically for you as opposed to buying in a premade set from a factory.
