So twelve weeks in here we go, am expecting again but kept it quiet til this weekend, just as I get ready to go back to school after mid-term! All planned thank God. Just wondering can I do the orals while on maternity leave? When are the orals exactly this year? Counting the weeks! Excitement!

    Congratulations!

Somehow I doubt you can do the orals, because if you're available for work with the SEC then you should be available to teach. Doesn't your school have to sign off to say they will release you?

I think maternity leave is treated in the same way as sick leave in that sense.

Congrats again Gaeilgegrinds , is this your second? Best wishes:).
In my experience, you can't officially work on maternity leave as Rainbowtrout has stated. You are really on official leave.

But look on the brightside................. more time with the bambinos :):):)

I'm just worried as I've heard if you don't do them a year they don't immedicately ask you again, should I send in a doctor's cert when I say I won't be doing it? School seems a breeze this year since I copped our good news, I feel like I was made to be a Mom.

I assume you get appointed automatically if the Irish orals works anything like the Ag Science practicals. If i was in your position when you are sending back the decline slip, I'd write 'on maternity leave' across it and make sure you're in contact with them early next year.

    This.
When you fill in on your form that you have done it before and there haven't been any issues, it's generally yours if you want it again.

Better the devil you know etc..

I suppose I was just worried missing one year would immediately cancel me out with a big black X beside my name, as it is I can't do the corrections this year as we've a wedding abroad. They're really going to love me this year, not!

According to the Department timetable, the Irish and Russian Leaving Cert exams are on at the same time. Is there any way a student can take both subjects?

Normally if a student is taking two exams at the same time, the student will be kept in after the first examination (probably Irish as it's the more popular one) and will have their lunch under supervision away from the rest of the students and will then sit their other exam (in this case Russian) that afternoon/evening.

Eg. I see Irish and Russian are morning exams. Business is the afternoon exam. If you are not doing Business you would do the Russian exam while business is on having had your lunch in isolation. If you also do Business, you would sit Irish and Business having being isolated in between, then have another break (supervised) and then sit Russian that evening. Or something along those lines.

Thanks a million for that info. I had a student who's taking Russian outside of school and was quite upset when he realised the potential problem today. Will be able to pass on info now and it will also stop me being fobbed of when I phone Dept of E&S. Thanks again!
