Peugeot 307cc weird noise????

    I have a 2004 Peugeot 307cc. Bought it in March. Its 1.6 petrol. It's started to make a really weird revving noise from about 40km upwards and sounds like like it's about to blow at about 80. No idea what this is or how to describe it as I don't know much about cars but i'll try.

    It sounded like a really loud souped up car was driving behind me or as if I was driving in too low a gear, which I wasn't. Also, it could have been my imagination but it felt at some points that there was a tremble in the car but that could have been my imagination looking for problems.

    Obviously I'll get it checked out but any idea what this could be? Could it be serious?
