Are you allowed take pictures in there?

i think as long as you don't use flash. i took photos in there a while back as a staff member looked on. before it closed for 'renovations', you weren't allowed.

    Where is this?

I went to the one on Kildare st thinking it was this (because I remember being there as a child) and I was disappointed because it wasn't what I thought it was.
    Where is this one?

the one on kildare street is the national museum, not the natural history museum. the one you want is beside government buildings, facing merrion square.

    Where is this one?

It's on the corner of Merrion Sq, Beside the Dept of Finance. Basically at the back of where you were.

No, but sometimes they will turn a blind eye if you're discreet enough.

There are 'no photography' signs up alright, but we noticed loads of people snapping away with their compacts and quite a few staff about who seemed somewhat oblivious. Thought it'd be as well to enquire, as we were gonna whip out our 'pro'(?) cameras and didn't want to be getting thrown out (have already been throwm out of the National Gallery under similar circumstances). Checked with the museum guard and he said knock yourself out.Take as many photos as you like, just try not using a flash - which is understandable. Although joe-public were all firing of a flash now and then to get pix of their kids and nobody seemed to be too interested.

    Idiot

I was also in this Dead Zoo place and I wasn't allowed to use my DSLR there either and I said I wasn't using flash and he said it doesn't matter.

So my original statement I stand by!
