Roughly two and a half years I opened a broadband account with {snip}, due to poor coverage I cancelled the account the following day and returned all equipment by registered post.

For the next two years {snip} direct debited my account (€19.90 per month). I became aware of it in May at which point I contacted {snip}. After many calls I was refunded all amounts owed. Two days ago I received a phone call from a Debt collection agency threatening legal action against monies I owe {snip} to the tune of €326(amount refunded in May). There was no correspondence or phone calls from {snip} prior the Debt collector call.

When I contacted {snip} they claimed they refunded me twice, I have since checked my account and this appears to be true. At the end of May I was refunded twice, what advice could anyone offer or what is my best course of action? Kind regards.

Offer to pay back the money they refunded you in error.

Saying that, it's their error so you may be within your rights to keep it.

I would look for correspondance they had sent to you in relation to the overpayment prior to it being passed on to a debt collection agency.

Refund them, but deduct a charge for the inconvenience they caused you. If it was the other way around, you can be sure they would charge you. By the way did they refund the full amount or did they charge an admin fee?

They refunded the full amount, but they refunded it twice which i did not discover till i got the call from the debt collection agency as it was in a cashflow account.
