This is a ridiculous horse. I was impressed by St. Nic last year but this is something else...

Agree..that was great to see. Henry Cecil on now saying he's not sure if he'll get the Derby trip. One of those horses to keep in mind over the winter. Very exciting!

That was very impressive and a good time off a really sedate early pace

    Cecil on ATR now

    Don think thats possible!

Serious horse tho! I loved the way he went past them. Queally just said screw this, no point messin around! Didnt even have to move. Just gave him a bit of length.
Incredible time considering how slow a they went at the start!

yea the most impressive thing was Queally's "screw this" moment. That was very impressive. So exciting for next year but the Dewhurst next. Cant wait.

    I know he's dead lads!

zzzzzzzzzzzz, lets see what he does in the guineas for a a start..

The races Frankel has been winning have been Mickey Mouse affairs to an extent. Going for a proper G1 race like the Dewhurst is the right move now. He shouldn't be able to boss the field around like he did today and will have to run out of his comfort zone at some point if it is a genuine Dewhurst.

Saying that, the move he made around the field today, going from last to the lead looked fantastic.

You can say what you like about the opposition but they are not the worst horses around.

I think Frankel will be exciting but I am not going to get carried away about him, he is the best of his age group at the moment and I think he deserves to head of the Guineas and Derby markets. He is by Gallileo so you can be sure when properly asked a question he will have some turn of foot. Looking forward to seeing him sprint at full tilt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

He's going for the Dewhurst so if he wins that he'll be 1/5 for the Guineas..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Not a chance Nulty :pac: 4/6 shortest I'd say,but will be shorter throughout the winter.

You people really give me no credit at all!

Maybe you shouldn't take my posts so seriously

    :pac:

    I didn't. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

I took him at 4's for the Guineas, he is well worth a few bob at that price. The only problem I see with the Guineas is the natural improvement in horses from 2 to 3, some average horse this year could be unbeatable next year.

As for the he beat nothing argument, I am not having it. It's not who the horse beat it's how it does it. I saw Zarkava win the Prix Diane, the only decent horse in the race was a green Golikova in her second race and Zarkava murdered the field, I didn't let that put me off smashing into her for the Arc @ 7/1.

The handicapper has just given him a rating of 123, not bad for a 2 year old.:D

Unbelievably exciting times, The point of him beating nothing can be made but diamond geezer and klammer aren't world beaters but in no way donkeys. The gosden newcomer he beat at donny looks above average too and the style in which he just destroyed them all was amazing. Beautiful horse and huge for a 2yr old his stride is amazing to look at. Cannot wait for the dewhurst to see him really tested and what he's made of but i've a little inkling in me that he's special, Very special.

    Dream Ahead.

Frankel and him would be great to see!

Dream Ahead looked one hell of a horse. Plenty of big win margins at Newmarket today was strange.

thanks for the link my god thats some horse

He is some horse the way he is improving his rating could well be right up there with the best horses ever by the end of the season.

At the moment he is only rated 1 pound less than Sea The Stars which is amazing considering Sea The Stars peaked in the autumn to get that rating.

I cant see 1m 2f being a problem he seems to be settling better in his races now and the way he was running away from the others yesterday he was'nt stoping.

Hopefully a clash with So You Think before the end of the season was be great.

Bump for his 4 year old season, A quote from the live reporter at Newmarket as Frankel finishes his gallop with Bullet train and Jet away today.

"Frankel has just drawn spontaneous applause from a fair crowd railside as he worked 7f and drew right away from Bullet Train and Jet Away in a leisurely piece of work.
While Frankel was quiet as a lamb jogging to post as soon as he jumped off he was pulling Tom Queally's arms out. That went on for four furlongs before he was given his head and he lengthened effortlessly clear of his two workmates.

Roll on the Lockinge, I just feel sorry for Excelebration."

    Bring it on.

    Opposition to Frankel, 1.33

Decent bit of support fir Dubawi Gold, 32 from 100+. hard to see him winning but you could possibly argue it was hard to see the discrepancy in price between him & O'Brien's horse

Ridiculous just ridiculous, hairs on the back of my neck stood up when he quickened up.

To do what he's done over three seasons and remaining unbeaten so far puts him into a league with the likes of Brigadier Gerard. There is nothing among the older horses to beat him over a mile. I reckon Henry wants to see if he can do it over further, a season kicking around his old foes over a mile won't tell us anything about how good he really is. The temptation to run in the Prince of Wales over 10f may prove too hard to resist.

Anyone else find it interesting that his two brothers were also running today. Frankels Dam has visited Galileo four times, so there's two more full brothers or sisters in the pipe line.

It's worth looking at Brigadier Gerard's record to compare both horses. He also beat horses by large distances and better horse than the ones Frankel has beaten so far.
    1970: two-year-old season
His first race was in the Berkshire Stakes at Newbury in late June 1970 which, starting at 100/7 the joint outsider of the five runners, he won by five lengths. Brigadier Gerard finished his first season unbeaten in four races including the prestigious Middle Park Stakes. Even so he was rated below the more experienced My Swallow (undefeated in seven races) and Mill Reef (whom My Swallow had narrowly defeated in the Prix Robert Papin) in the Free Handicap - the end of season handicap for two year-olds.

    1971: three-year-old season
He entered the season's first colts' classic, the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, without a preparatory race. As they lined for the race, Brigadier Gerard, Mill Reef and My Swallow had between them won 18 out of their 19 races. In one of the most eagerly anticipated races ever, Brigadier Gerard won in devastating fashion by three lengths from Mill Reef and My Swallow. Brigadier Gerard followed that victory with wins in the St. James's Palace Stakes, the Sussex Stakes by five lengths, the Goodwood Mile by ten lengths, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes by eight lengths, and the Champion Stakes. At a mile he was unbeatable on anything but very soft ground (he only narrowly won the St James's Palace Stakes on heavy ground). He was kept out of the Epsom Derby by his owners because they were unsure how far he would stay as his pedigree was more that of a miler than a middle distance horse (Mill Reef went on to win the race and was never defeated again). At the end of his three year old season he was undefeated in ten races at distances between five furlongs and a mile and a quarter.

    1972: four-year-old season
The following year Brigadier Gerard extended his unbeaten run to fifteen with wins in the Lockinge Stakes, the Westbury Stakes, the Prince of Wales's Stakes (setting a new course record), the Eclipse Stakes, and, tackling one and half miles for the first time, beat Parnell to win the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Then came his sensational defeat in the Benson & Hedges Gold Cup run over an extended mile and a quarter at York. Brigadier Gerard (starting at 1/3) raced against the 1972 Epsom Derby winner Roberto and the runner-up, Rheingold, who started second favourite. Roberto had run poorly in his previous race, the Irish Derby, but, ridden by the American jockey Braulio Baeza ran the race of his life with a bold front running display, which shattered the course record, to defeat Brigadier Gerard by three lengths.
He finished his career with two more wins in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (setting a new course record to win in scintillating style by six lengths) and the Champion Stakes. He retired at the end of his four-year-old season, a winner of 17 races from 18 starts, with total earnings of £253,024.70.

Incredible horse. I'd like to see him over 10f though. Wonder will they take him to the US? Dunno do the Americans have anything to match him at the moment, but then you never know how European horses will perform on the US tracks.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,210 ✭✭✭argosy2006

Some one needs to step up and make first move,
Frankel controls race, makes his move, and once that move is made game over,
Someone need to go first and earlier, try open up a lead.

Funny seeing people try to react when its to late,

Pretty sure they've said his swan song will be champions day

Whether that will be over 8f or 10f remains to be seen

I would love to see it over 7f at a conventional track. I don't want to see it over a mile at Goodwood. It's unfair on the mare
